Wrathion’s greasy jerri curls.
Not a single thing of note or interest happened in the DF main story. Shockingly mundane and poorly told. Stop rewriting your stories and just commit, Blizzard.
The biggest disappointment is that the dragons never really did anything. Yeah, we interacted with them a lot but they were rarely dragons. Just their visages.
We didn’t get to kill Vyranoth
Eredar joining the Alliance in exchange for a shiny rock.
The Legion has been (arguably) the greatest threat in Warcraft, so why not just let Legion members into the Alliance?
The Storm Dragons already had a presence in a small canyon in Thaldrazus. They were there from the beginning. Just not the individuals that Odyn had conscripted.
Pretty much after the first raid tier, the story aferwards has been meh.
That the team working on the game didn’t get swapped out yet
This, but to be honest, not even sure Metzen himself can redeem WoW from the absolute depths the current writers plunged Warcraft into in both BFA & SL.
Dragonflight is easily the best story they’ve told since Legion simply because it didn’t ruin everything that came before it. It was boring, meaningless and bland… but at this point, the fact it was just bad in a silo without pissing on the setting we’ve loved for decades is a positive: the bar is set so low.
That gives me some hope Metzen may succeed in Warthin.
We never got any information on Stormshroud Peak, though. The dragons there are hostile and remain hostile even after completing that quest.
I got the Dragonflight Codex recently and the Storm dragon entry reads as follows:
“The recent discovery of a brood of Storm Drakes in Thaldraszus may offer further insight into the when/where of this species origin. As of yet however, no successful contact has been made.”
Still doesn’t address where the Thorignir ended up after all of that, and I’m shocked we didn’t see Vethir at all since he had the most dealings with us Mortals during Legion.
You guys don’t like your safe, inoffensive narratives? Your sanitized, ideologically vetted characters to make sure they check all the correct boxes?
You told us things like “the faction war is old and tired” which landed you on Friendship is Magic-land and you can’t put two plus two together, huh?
Why am I not surprised. Classic case of be careful what you wish for.
The Dracthyr story.
The whole like main story tbh like it was ok but it wasn’t great like especially not a fan of how they wrote Alexstrazsa ignoring her past and all her trauma like just letting Sabellian walts into her domain and Wrathion just throwing out his Character development out the Window for some annoying conflict that didn’t even matter in the end.
Side quests ranged from good to amazing though.
Everything about it~
I think the saddest part is none of the stories felt impactful to me.
That the new home of the Night Elves is going to be even more out of the way than the old one. It’s just going to become another Exodar.
Metzen wrote up some of the big parts of DF, including the cinematic where Kalec told everyone they beat Fyrakk with the power of friendship. One dude isn’t going to save a games story. This is just rose-tinted goggles train of thinking. Sorry to say.
That’s very sad if true - any proof of that though? My understanding based on previous interviews was they typically write the story about two years in advance. By the time they had re-hired Metzen, Dragonflight’s story was already done and it was in production.
This whole thing was basically considered Steve Danusers baby to my knowledge.
My understanding was Warthin would be where Metzen takes over.
When we got Dracthyr instead of Drakonid.
My main problem with Dragonflight is that the Twilight Dragonflight never made an appearance. And I will say it is probably too late for them to have one now since the expansion is nearly over (from a story pov). The Twilights Hammer cult made an appearance in Dragonflight but no Twilight Dragons? Despite one of the main themes being Neltharion and his legacy? The Twilight Dragonflight are part of that Legacy. No scrap that, THEY ARE HIS LEGACY. They were his perfect creations. He succeeded where Sinestra failed.
They appeared in Legion, and again in BFA. BFA presented the Twilight Dragonflight as ones without purpose. Felt abandoned by N’zoth due to their ‘failure’ of ushering in the Hour of Twilight. To the point that the moment Vexiona showed up, the newly hatched Twilights from Grim Batol sided with her. Then you have Goriona, whom is still flying away from the Skyfire as we speak. To add insult to injury, the Dragonflight Codex that just released even mentions them. So clearly Blizzard has not forgotten about them. But where are they? Why weren’t they involved with Aberrus in some way?
It honestly felt that Deios simply sent that disc through time for no reason other than to be a jerk.
Also why did he sent it to an AU Elisande? Was that ever answered?
tbf we have had expansions in the past where the final boss is not the actual main antagonist. Legion had that with Argus. BFA had N’zoth. Hell Wraths final boss is actually Halion.
