Becoming a guide requires level 80 (it’s max level of current xpac) and a minimum of 3000 quests completed. The new players have a murloc icon next to their name, guides have a green flag. These are visible only to newcomers and guides in the open world and they appear as such in chat.
Yes, a lot of issues start with difficulty with emotes, but it really isn’t hard to just instruct them the proper way to do it. Sometimes it continues, most of the time it doesn’t and they thank you. There’s been times they were completely unaware a macro they made wasn’t working and spammed the channel. A whisper to them explaining what was going on and they fixed it and thanked me for taking the time. Being a guide certainly isn’t for everyone; especially if you’re impatient or have some superiority complex. They’re new players interested in the game, we’re there to help them ease into it.
I enjoy it. It is generally a lot more mature than any other chat and they have genuine questions most of the time and are actually appreciative of help.
