There is barely any content. They cut all the leisure activities, they cut big fun group activities, they cut rewards. (We were lucky to get a handful?) It’s cuts all over. I’m not sure who made the call to cut all the content too, but that’s what we got. Don’t make me mention other cuts again that aren’t ingame related. I think Blizzard philosophy lately is less is more. They think this is working out for them because the game is still profitable. I don’t know how they will manage to stay a float when more and more people are leaving. Somehow they believe it is sustainable with no customers. The prerogative shifted to stocks instead of the people who even purchase the product. Offering scraps for high end dollars. Did TBC ever work out? I kept telling them I had a hunch it wouldn’t… I would have no idea how well it is doing. Stop being cheap. Indie companies spend more than them on their product. It’s unacceptable and it shows.
When I first saw screenshots of SL I legit thought they were screenshots of FFXIV and Castlevania.
The art is good, but it doesn’t look like Warcraft. Setting-wise it feels like a cheap knock-off of D&D Planscape, with Oribos being a poor man’s Sigil.
Almost everything is detached from the core setting. Characters from the past return, but they no longer feel like those characters anymore. Whole things reeks of ‘new guy takes over and wants to change everything the original owner(s) had to make their own thing in its place’. Wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if the next expac is Cataclysm v2. Destroying UC and Teldrassil was just the first step for a full reset.
My main issue is chorghast. It’s absolutely terrible. I can’t stand the place. I go so annoyed the campaign forced me to go in there in the first place. It’s so bad my 2 SL mains don’t even wear legendaries due to the soul ash cost. Don’t get me started on how bad twisting corridors is. Terrible. Just. Terrible.
I think we’d have gotten a better expansion if - instead of this “go to the afterlife, find out it’s basically an aesthetically challenged version of Azeroth, do exactly what you’d do if you weren’t in the afterlife to fix it” garbage - Sire Denathrius had just been some upstart ruler in a new set of zones who wanted to Take Over the World in the wake of N’zoth’s attack.
Anima grind is awful. Just too time consuming trying to upgrade covenant AND save for the items. Also anima isn’t the only currency. You also need to grind out the grateful offerings or whatever it is called.
Maw is…really not good. Almost no actual rewards in Torghast, once you have the mount and a leggo there is no reason to go back. No flight whistle. Game feels designed to slow you down.
I still enjoy WoW, but it isn’t all that great right now imo.
Doing all the work for blizzard helps :^)
I switched to EU servers and found like-minded players and that made a HUGE difference
Seems EU players are more friendly and do more events
Because shadowlands is horribly grindy, and has no open world content. Its all instanced or unsub.
That’s a covenant issue. You play an alt in BFA and you can still experience everything, and in Legion even though there was 12 order halls, aside from each hall looking different and the powers from your weapon being different, it all came back to mostly the same quest lines, the same content, the same rewards.
In SL you miss out on a good chunk of content from the covenants. Each zone is not only disconnected and you can’t just fly over, but the content in each zone being somewhat locked to that covenant means when you go there it just feels empty outside of WQ’s and some rares you can farm.
They basically made it a one zone expansion with some side content if you want to.
dang… you NAILED it. Bravo
It feels like it was ‘mass produced’, don’t it? Makes me pine for the Classic zones even more. They are ridden with outdated models, low-res textures, and their hills and mountains look like soft play-doh, but damned if they aren’t positively brimming with ‘soul’. Even after Cataclysm roughed them up, they still feel like a world.
SL is simply put - unreinforcing. the basic premise of these games is that you do activities in the game that yield immediate rewards, many of which should be tied to a regular and meaningful progression of ur character.
At almost every point, form leveling to your covenant, to dungeons, to raids, M+ (excepting PvP) … they have absolutely screwed up rewards. Every step of the game … when you kill something meaningful you should regularly have a chance to improve ur character.
But in the interests of nerfing gear progression, stretching out content, and ensuring mythic raiders feel leet, SL gearing and progression in general are the worst they have ever been in the history of WoW … and the game is d e a d, holy crap there’s nobody playing.
I feel the same way OP, my main hasn’t even hit 200 ilvl. I’m just not feeling it and can’t quite put my finger on what it is. Shadowlands just doesn’t feel like WoW to me. I don’t like that the zones aren’t connected anymore, makes the expansion feel small. I hope they don’t carry that idea forward to new expansions. I’m just doing older content for now, and if I get bored of that I’ll take another break from the game.
DAE Grizzle? Geraldo, Kripperino, Skyrim, 6/7 Oger.

Ah yes, more random undiscovered islands on Azeroth. That’s what we needed. More islands.
As much as Shadowlands has its problems with this content drought, thematically, tonally, story-wise it’s mostly fine. If we were rushing into Sanctum of Domination 4 months after launch none of these questions would be asked. It’s simply when we all start to get thirsty for content we start losing our minds (not just you, “we”, I agree that the drought really sucks and makes me question aspects about the game even though I love the dungeons more than any other expansion ever).

the dungeons are poorly designed. They have very low replay value, making me lose all interests in m+, alt leveling, etc. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about dungeons before, and I am still excited to queue up for previous expansion dungeons in chromie time. But wow, I just dread getting to lvl 50 and having to deal with the sl dungeons again.

non-raid/m+ content is very bad. Torghast, maw, anima features. Is just all very very bad and not fun to do at all. I’m not going to grind for 7 months to get reskin transmogs. The game feels barren because the only meaningful content is the three “pillars”. Blizzard needs to realize that if their is no content outside of those instances, the game will be shallow.
-
random bgs are in a horrible state because of how pvp gearing works. Those used to be something you could just pop on and do without thinking or caring to much to organize anything, but they are just miserable right now.

overall, and this is my biggest complaint, the game doesn’t feel rewarding to play. It holds those carrots back so much that I’m not motivated to keep grinding the same content over and over and over like I was in the past.
How does it help with a story that is lacking, a main feature that is a chore, a whole zone that is not enjoyable, lack of world pvp due to phasing favoring whichever side happened to have more people there first, pvp imbalances, and general lack of loot?
None of those issue are actual issues. You’re just unhappy with the game so you’re conjuring up imaginary reasons to hate the game. That’s how having a guild would fix those issues - you’d be spending time enjoying the game rather than making up reasons you don’t.
Lmao, okie ion. We all all like the game, we just don’t know it.
I’d rather have more undiscovered islands - or revamped zones - on Azeroth, than go to a metaphysical realm that’s sorely lacking in the metaphysics.
I’d rather go to zones that we already have than go to shadowlands. Honestly, I think Blizzard pulled too much of the curtain back on the ‘cosmos’. It feels more like an anime that you would watch on Toonami back in the day than it does warcraft.
