Random BGs are an absolutely terrible way of judging relative strength of specs. If you’re engaged enough to mouse turn instead of keyboard turn and actually fill every GCD you’re already more skilled than over half the people you’re fighting, plus random BGs are typically ran by fresh max levels so the gear gaps can be enormous. Case in point: in BFA Marksmanship was fine in BGs but was awful and fully unviable everywhere else.
Hard casting aimed shot sucks balls. The spec is designed such that you have to get EVERY aimed shot you can possibly get off, or your DPS is in the dumpster. The problem with that is that the cast time is so long, that even if you’re midway through the cast, if a mechanic spawns under you, you need to move and stop the cast.
Look at the dragon soul MM spec. You cast Chimera shot on CD, and then you did two rotations of a focus cost shot and two steady shots for focus gen in between the cooldowns. If you could stand still, you cast Aimed shot to spend. if you had to move you cast arcane. Aimed WAS better, but not so much better that your DPS suffered really hard when you had to cast arcane. Chimera was your big deal. add to that your free cast Aimed shots from LnL and you had a rewarding experience.
Now, every missed aimed shot is crippling, and the devs are trying to balance the DPS around “how hard does this shot have to hit, given they have to cancel its cast one in four attempts”. It’s awful.
To the people that weren’t around back then, just think back to legion, especially antorus. Once you got the right legendaries and the right amount of gear, MM with marked shot felt great. You weren’t so reliant on Aimed shot for your damage, you could cast it when you had a second to stand still for boosts, or you got a free cast now and then.
The Devs need to give up on this “Build the spec around aimed shot” thing. It feels terrible, and it’s harder to balance.
As far as SV goes, the dps output is behind considerably. On top of that, once we lose Flayed shot mechanic it will be in the dumpster even more. And as another person in this thread stated, SV lacks a true “on-demand burst mechanic”. The 3 current selection types are severely underwhelming in pre-patch, and it will most likely translate terrible once we go live.
Defensively, hunter is supposed to be the king of not being hit. That doesn’t happen anymore in this game. Almost every class is littered with some type of range or gap closing mechanic. If they want to push SV into the melee fray completely that is fine, but they have to give the spec more defensives and more healing. If they don’t want to give us the correct melee tools, then they need to give back the ability to kite with decent burst mechanics for kill windows.
I have literally said this 1000x on these forums leading up to DF. You can either make SV ranged (or melee-ish with good kiting tools) OR 100% melee with melee survival tools. “Neither” isn’t a viable option.
Definitely need way better survivability up close. The reliance on pet makes it hard too because you’ll both get cleaved down.
It’s depressing watching Bicmex do so well in solo shuffle with survival but rarely stay in melee range in most matches because he won’t live. He has to range as much as possible and only go in melee for small bursts when there’s CC for him to live.
Entire class is trash
blizzard missed out on the perfect opportunity to sweep the mistake that is melee survival under the rug with these new talent trees.
they could of simply added the ranged abilities as talents of old survival when it was at its height of flow, playstyle and performance with all the dots, poisons, serpent spreads, explosive shots and sustained master that it was and simply put a few talents in the tree for the 3 rogues and 2 warriors that have been trying to hijack a RANGED CLASS.
i dont know where blizzard is going with this. and i dont think they know either.
its like they are from the iron islands when it comes to melee survival. what is dead may never die. just kill it already and pull the plug.
I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Ive killed so many evokers that i feel bad for them and dont attack them unless they attack me first.
Put them in binding shot, drop sticky tar on them then cleave away. By the time binding shot wears off theyre at close to half health, then a couple of well placed grenades, couple of kill commands and a kill shot for a splat finish. The only class i have trouble killing is a seasoned priest or warlock.
since when are MM hunters taken into high rated RBGS
S2-S4 MM was very strong and was meta adjacent. Problem is most good players played the more impactful classes like rogue, boomy or lock. You kinda do have a point though as only I think 7 or 8 Hunters got Hero in NA and EU.
I havent done RBGS in a while now the most i got was 2.2k but the only time i hunter was ever used was for BM and that was for holding farm or x point.
Hunters only thing they ever had was the pet and was able to flare stealths so they couldnt open on you so you had the advantage for ninja caps. You also have turtle and other stuff to hold off points. Other than that MM has never ever been in a strong position in comparison to Balance druids, Locks etc high level Hunters for DPS purposes they are always replaced. There is always something that can do the job better they dont bring anything crazy like huge AOE damage or AOE silences, spammable CC, unique CC etc
Hunter base sitter went away as soon as rogue got Shadowy Duel. As for MM you are vastly underrating the damage it was capable of and it absolutely had to be respected and most of the time focused to shut it down. The damage I could do when I was left to free cast was pretty insane. Lock damage that is single target burst that just doesn’t end.
Ah okay maybe im wrong, ill check out MM RBG representation last expac and see how it did, i havent played RBGS serious in a long time now. I would be happy to see MM being used it was useless for a long time.
It looks like some buffs for those incoming.
Yeah, I saw and the buffs are good. It should bump MM up in line with BM.
Why? 10char
Nah, frost mage is the king of not being hit.
One of the main things left we need is the pets themselves getting buffed or at least not being generic copies of eachother.
That class…bane of my existence since TBC…I also suck at pvp so yeah lol
