Evokers. Preservation Evokers are the mage spec that can heal. They just packaged it into a new class. It uses the same concepts for mage healing that retail and SoD mages use.

Yep. Mages are doomed to forever be basic in their design now. I was straight up expecting a rework at some point because our three specs are just so similar… three flavors of the same ice cream.
You may as well ask why Warriors dont have a healing spec. Or Warlocks. Or Death Knights.
A mage, like a hunter or any of the other purely dps classes, is intended to do damage. That is their position within the game’s play structure. Hunters do damage. Nobody expects them to come up an apply a bandage or put a cool cloth on our heated brows. They are, what they are.
Yes, just what the game needs - frost/fire mage, rogue, healer mage. Because clearly there isn’t enough toxicity of gameplay as is.

More likely it didn’t get continued to avoid feature creep.
For a prime example of something we know about that fell victim to this, path of the titans from cataclysm.
I would main mage if it had a heal spec. I love mage the most as a class but I love healing too much to main it, so I’m stuck in Shadow Priest which I don’t love lol
Hopefully the Mage healer in Season of Discovery is a test for a future heal spec!
I’d dig a priest tanking build! I’d prefer to call it Cleric. And then make a holy ranged DPS spec called Exorcist.

Glyphs already existed, having been added in wrath.
Forgot that. I was thinking of the whole Prime, major and minor glyphs that came out in Cata (right?)
Major/minor was wrath, prime was added in cata, but was removed in mop due to its overlap with major
And a mage in chainmail with weapons is a Shaman
Maybe they’ll add more specs to other classes in the future. More support specs to compete with Augmentation and maybe even stuff from SoD like Mage healers or Warlock, Rogue and Shaman tanks.
Pretty sure a mage heal spec would tread too close to Evoker with the whole time manipulation thing. And since mages don’t really use any other magic that’s capable of restoring things, it’s kind of their only option

I’ve always been a warlock main but after the sabotage from MoP i’ve switched over to warrior to have the freedom to pick more than one role.
Gives mages the liberty to play healer without abandoning their favourite class or themes.
Arcane borders time-magic. Like we had an major raid boss who’s entire gimmick was the she was using arcane to reset the entire battlefield.
Also fire got some healing properties and frost works as a nice sustain.
They’re not nor have they ever been a healing class and they want each class to be unique/have different strengths/weaknesses/roles in a group. That’s likely the main reason. Healing magic isn’t normally associated with the arcane.
