What happens if classic does better than retail?

It wouldn’t retain those players though. If they don’t stay with it in the first place, they won’t stay with it when current gets new content.

That being said, in blizzards own words “classic is classic” after they finish rolling out classic content there will be the content drought to end all content droughts.

Have fun with your mobile game quality graphics on the player models again.

#1, Blizzard would never admit it. It would be insane if they did.

#2, I think it’s very unlikely. I think Classic will do well enough, but I don’t think it’ll ever match Retail.

It would show how disconnected the current developers are with what players want if classic is a success over current game.

Which one of those makes Blizzard the most amount of money for least effort (short term). That’s the horse I would bet on- it wouldn’t even have to stay in its own lane.

if classic does as well as retail, then maybe Blizz should think about making a polished Burning Crusade, this is where this game shined imo.

Blizzard: They would look like incompetent morons and will be utterly embarrassed that the game they’re trying to stray away from is superior to their retail garbage.

Retail Fanboys/ NPC’s: whine endlessly about classic and complain about how “it’s so hard”.

Me and every other classic fan out there: Laughing our heads off as we have fun playing an actual MMORPG.

Absolutely.

Got to remember it was the new shiny back then. Did not have a whole lot of competition back then. Especially from the console mkt for online gaming. Heck most of the people I know don’t even play pc online games anymore. They are console, and mobile gamers nowadays. Just my opinion, but outside of initial release number surges, I seriously doubt that even classic will be able to retain a good portion of subscribers. No better than retail anyways. If it does then great, but this pipe dream that a lot of the classic mouth breathers believe that somehow a rehash of wow classic will somehow draw in millions, and millions of players is just that-a pipe dream. I don’t want to see either fail, and wishing one, or the other fails is like wanting the pilot to crash the plane that we are all on. Bad meme I know, but ya.

Plenty of other games for me to play and enjoy.

Hope it does well, I won’t be playing it seriously though. Maybe log on for an hour to relive it, then go back to retail permanently.

I’d love for the devs to incorporate the things that prove popular into retail.

Despite the complaints about retail, Legion was a great expansion. They CAN make good expansions from time to time.

More money coming into the franchise, larger budget overall. Classic BC gets greenlit.

There are SO many assumptions in your post, it would be impossible to answer much of anything.

Short answer is live will be fine. Classic will be fine and don’t hold your breath for TBC or WotLK.

That’s kind of the nature of hypothetical questions. It’s not a question about the accuracy of the assumptions, it’s a question of what happens if assumptions are true.

There is a difference between a hypothetical question and layers upon layers of what ifs.

Time investment does not make something difficult.

My best answer is this. I’ve played for almost 15 years why stop now?

I’d be enjoying my dwarf hunter again.

Technically speaking though you can at least USE the cape. Getting paladin shoulders to drop for a horde group is actually troll.

Actually I think the finality of classic will be refreshing for most players - knowing there is an end goal, being able to hit that end goal and min max their characters fully with

A) no buff/nerf patches incoming for their classes to worry about
B) None of their gear getting outdated

Classic arguably provides thousands of hours of content. If a player gets bored - they will level an alt. The game has a gigantic community in every level bracket - and in general. The finality will attract people, not deter them. Yeah sure you will have people begging for tbc and wotlk (they are now already) but it won’t be because they min maxed their character - it will be because they want to play those expansions.

Like do you remember the tears back in TBC when everybody’s epics that they worked so hard for in Vanilla were immediately made useless by the first few quest rewards. People were pissed beyond belief and hated that.

People want a final goal for their characters and they want to know the class they are playing won’t change over night - they are tired of being on a hamster wheel. Classic offers finality and will be incredibly alt friendly.
