What happens after TBC Anniversary?

IMO the most ideal way they could make the most people happy at once would be to let TBC move forward into Wrath while leaving behind a single PvP and PvE server for TBC each, then do the same when Wrath ends.

Wrath ends, you get a single PvP and PvE server each, and then they shut down “Progression Classic” after an expedited version of WoD Classic (Think: 6.0 directly into 6.2, with all of the structural changes implemented in 6.1 available at the start of WoD) is left on maintenance mode for a couple years with a period where any and all characters on the Progression Classic servers can be moved over to Retail with all their collectables coming with.

Then they consolidate all of the Classic era servers into the same shebang as TBC and Wrath; one single PvP and PvE server each, and then Classic+ is released. The game ends up with five clients: Vanilla, TBC, Wrath, Retail and Classic+, with only two of those clients needing active development on their games.

This all (with the exception of the eventual closing of WoD Classic) would only need to happen over the course of about a year or so, if you put Wrath on the same expedited timeline that TBC is on.

That’s the most ideal way they could handle Classic at this point. Consolidation into three types of Era servers, the closure of “Progression Classic” and the opening of Classic+.

Second this. I’d probably leave one toon on a tbc era server too to come back to when burnt on other versions, theres no harm in giving us the ability to do that. Only thing is if we progress into WoD after Mists, I think most people will be expecting another run through Legion as well. Hell, I’d give that a shot too most likely.

There are many private servers out there right now offering wotlk, cataclysm, legion, Mists etc, the demand is definitely there. And considering an era server requires next to no effort from devs why not just do it?

Theyd hold blizzcon in 2027 if they needed the time. They most likely been working on this for over 2 years, possibly even longer than that

My guess is they have been working on classic+ since sod launched.

plz make era servers for both tbc and wotlk so everyone is happy and we can go between classic era, tbc era and wotlk era. That’s my hope. While classic + sounds intriguing it wouldnt be my first choice among these options and im sure many others feel the same.

The cost most likely isnt worth it to blizzard.

i would’nt mind if they made u pay a different sub per era honestly. I will only be playing one at a time.

I highly doubt its a different sub.

I feel like era servers are the most cost effective way to retain subs for blizzard atm - almost no dev time once it’s launched (they haven’t touched mop since release) and if they make a wotlk era realm they will not only be taking in subs from the most played version of the game, they will also have faction/race/name/realm transfers, not to mention level boosts and most likely wow token too. Seems like free money to me!

The problem with Classic+ is that what the hell is Classic+? Ask multiple Classic players and each one will give you a different answer.

Because Classic WOW has been based on a lie: that there is one Classic WOW, which is the same as saying there are 2 WOWs, Classic and Retail.

And that’s false. There are players who enjoy Vanilla and maybe TBC, because those two are slow-paced versions and won’t play a WOTLK or Post-Cata server. And there are players who enjoy expansions like WOTLK-Cata-MOP for their game play is so different from the previous one and won’t play a vanilla-like server. With some being in between like those who like Vanilla-TBC-WOTLK.

But no matter what this means, we have at least 2 different and incompatible Classic WOWs. There is no way to make a Classic+ that makes happy players who want Vanilla-like or players who want WOTLK-like.

And maybe there is a 4th type of WOW players, those who hate current Retail but want to play again Legion. There some voices asking for it, but I don’t know if they are enough for Classic 2019 to continue. Maybe not.

I don’t know if Classic 2019 will progress into WOD and Legion. I don’t know if Classic Anniversary will progress into WOTLK and beyond. But I know that trying to have just one Classic+ for everyone is a mistake. At least they should have 2 different Classic versions running at the same time.

The typical argument about this is that multiple choices will split the player base. But my counter argument to that, based on what I said, is that they cant join the player base in the first place. The player base is already split between two different Classic players, so Blizzard’s choice is not to split or not; it is to split the two on two different servers…or split the two, giving one server to one type and losing the other.

This is true, to a certain extent. There is at the very least one established thought behind what classic + is suppose to be and if anyone disagrees (imo) they just need to be left out of the conversation. I understand anyone can have an opinion I’m just saying there are opinions that should be ignored.

And it kinda ties into this. The general idea of classic + is that it is originally based on vanilla, and its to create a game based upon this style of game. So when you say “well some people like mop” I’m sorry, that’s fine that they like mop, this isn’t about mop.

I’m not saying it has to be perfectly 1:1, and there are certain things that I personally think would be a pretty big change that I would be okay with and it’s simply based on one thought. What would the original devs have added if they came back and made the game. Like housing for example, that’s a massive change and retail just got it. But honestly I think it’s fair game for classic + and that’s because the original devs were wanting to add it but couldn’t due to time and technical constraints.

It’s not. Everyone doesn’t need everything all at once.

I’m a wotlk fan boy, but I’m not asking for a wotlk 2.0 with classic + and I don’t need to have a wotlk 2.0. Classic + is at the very least what I just described. However you think it should be to fit this description is up to you. But if someone is coming around and when they are asking for classic + and they are just describing MOP 2.0 then they aren’t in the conversation. They just aren’t.

Why you quote my message to just repeat Mop this or Mop that? That’s the only thing that you pick from my message?

And I haven’t said that Classic just should be MOP only. My point was that there are a bunch of Classic players who want the fast paced expansion that WOTLK, Cataclysm and MOP has been and those people dont want Vanilla. It is not just MOP. If your conclussion from my message is that I believe that Classic is just MOP…well, that’s also the same thing I critizing. Any affirmation which consists in “Classic is” is wrong. Classic isn’t. Classics ARE. Plural.

And if you keep insisting that Classic should be based on vanilla only you are indeed making the mistake I said. Splitting the player base by trying to join them in one Classic only.

And making a Classic+ based on Vanila is fine. Making a game for that audience is fine. What is wrong is to keep pretending there is only one Classic. What is wrong is to keep pretending one single version is enough for all Classic players. And no, that doesn’t means Classic+ should be MOP.

Maybe things are as simple as continue having two Classic versions like we have been since 2021. We had in the past Season of Mastery, Season of Discovery and Anniversary coexisting with Classic progression. That shows they recognizned once a Classic moved from vanilla-like there was a need for a vanilla-like server. So, coexisting a vanilla-like Classic+ with another non-Vanilla-like server? That would be fine. Not neccesary continue MOP servers. Personally I would prefer a Classic Anniversary WOTLK.

Pretty much c+ will probably borrow qualities from all 3 of the games

When people say “it’s based on vanilla” they mean things like no flyIng, a sandbox element game which vanilla is the most of all xpacs, and without super powered existential threats like arthas or illidan as “the final boss”.

Everyone agrees it’s going to have updated clsss design so no need to worry there, also based on the leaks there should be elements taken from RuneScape for repeatable content tht help break the raidlogging meta

Classic+ is just a term for a general idea that explains the basics that most people agree on like new zones raids and updated classes. As far as the nuances of said changes, everyone has a diff idea

I hope they move on to Wrath ann. while keeping two TBC era relms open for those wanting to stay in TBC.

Instead of giving us a limited amount of time to choose which we want our characters to be in. Have the choice happen ONLY when the player logs into that character. So no matter how long someone stays away for whatever reason. That choice will remain until the player chooses.

They are 100% finishing of tbc and mop this year to make room for classic +.

I was using it as an example why are you getting so defensive lol. I’m just saying I don’t agree we need to worry about having 2 classic pluses and then explained it to you.

There’s nothing to split. Classic + should be one thing. If you like it then play it if it’s bad then don’t.

I’m explaining to you what the original idea and what the push for Classic + is. That’s what it is.

Basically this. Keep things with the idea that it is a vanilla Esq game mode in mind. When you start adding in ideas like “let’s have pandas and transmog, no. That’s not the point of the game mode I’m sorry.

I don’t allow you to lie putting false words on my mouth. I have never said “let’s have pandas and transmog". Given that you refuse to argue with what I said and the only you do is argue with a false idea of my messag…Let’s put an end to this conversation. You can argue againts MOP with someones who care. Don’t use me as your scapegoat to argue against MOP. Why don’t you try that with a real MOP player? I don’t know, maybe someone who really want to defend MOP. That’s not me.

Dude I never said you did would you chill. You suggested having two different versions for two different groups of classic players. And I’m saying the people who say stuff like this don’t need their own classic + because it’s not for them.

I think you’re missing the point - people who want to play wotlk arent going to play c+ (at least the vast majority) as its a completely different experience, so why not do both? The sentiment that it’ll be splitting the player base assumes that theyre the same player base in the first base, they arent.

C+ from my understanding is an osrs-like horizontal progression of the classic world of warcraft, the people who are playing MoP right now arent going to come back for c+ just because MoP has concluded, they’ll end up searching for that experience elsewhere if blizzard no longer offers it. I think that most MoP players of today would return to a wotlk era if MoP concluded, rather than c+ but that’s just my take, they are two completely different experiences after all.

They’re going to do both, the question is how they will drop them

Everything we have no points to it being released separately from wotlk. This is not something new, they did this with both SOM and SOD and blizzard clearly are not afraid to overlap

If you ask me, c+ this year, wrath q2 next year after we’ve had 4-5 months in +

C+ is clearly in a playable state and they are trying to give rise to it through the community without flat out saying it

The difference between wrath and c+ is that c+ is a dynamic server With no “end date”, meaning it isn’t a seasonal and is permanent. They can and will (imo) keep doing diff types of fresh/seasonals alongside it between dead periods

This is a good idea imo because it stretches out the lifespan of the game as we have more to do
