I loved Blackrock Depths with its nonlinear design. D= It felt like actually running through a hostile city trying to reach the throne room.
I love it too, but it takes a different mentality to play a dungeon like that. Instead of thinking “how fast can I get to the end” you think “this is an adventure to experience”
When you’re leveling and you get a tank that is trying to level as fast as possible by running the same 4 dungeons on repeat, you’re going to get the go go go mentality even without the existence of mythic plus.
I agree. It didn’t need all the bells and whistles of more recent expansions to give me a sense of intrigue and exploration. It was a large dungeon with options. So big they had to split it up into multiple queues for LFD. They had a different design philosophy in mind for dungeons back then. They were designed with the idea that we would actually be spending time there.
I’d love if they took some of the newer set pieces or dungeons and gave them the same treatment as older dungeons. Or at least thought to redesign the wheel and make it so that not every dungeon is designed to be a linear speed run. Varying dungeon styles would keep things from going stale.
Ooh. I see the toxic clown I blocked had more nothing sandwich to throw at me. Thanks for being critical of me specifically, while adding nothing to the conversation. Adieu to you.
Well and the dungeon design is laid out and intended for fast linear runs as well. As pointed out by Belmir, a lot of the older dungeons had a lot less one-track path to follow and felt more like a place to play than a chore to finish fast as possible.
Definitely. The dungeon design is just so different and now with e-sports in mind. I gotta admit, I’ve been this tank that tries to skip literally everything, because I want 60 RIGHT NOWWW. lol sucks to be new and come into that scenario. They should try to find other new players to experience dungeons with, so they can avoid this. Everyone knows that if you’re new you want to explore, not race.
Watch them add m+ leveling, where if you don’t level up within the timer limit, your level resets and you have to do it all over again. Only true players can be endgame then. /s
But, in all seriousness, i get that there is a crowd that wants timers and difficulty, blizzard just needs to learn to split those kinds of people to their own bubble and let them have their fun, while letting us slower folk enjoy ours. I support all forms of gameplay as long as they dont intrude or ruin other gameplay styles. (like the “gogogo” mentality of m+ becoming overwhelming in regular dungeon runs). Everyone should have fun in the game. Its a game, not a race.
Yea nobody is stopping you from enjoying any of that. The problem is you want to PUG into groups where the vast majority do not care at all past the opening week (if even that). That is what RP servers and new player realms are for. Instead of accepting this, you want everyone to bend the knee to your way of play. I DARE YOU to go into a PUG and say you want to explore and enjoy all of that… You will get booted. You are the toxic person here not me. I’m telling you the reality of the situation.
LOL the first tactic of a scoundrel is to accuse others of what they are already doing or would in your place.
I have never asked a group to slow down. I have never asked anyone to play my way. My post was a reaction to your weird hostility.
Mourning the fact that the way dungeons are run has changed is not the same thing as demanding that you run dungeons my way.
Go punch a pillow, angry boy.
I’m happy, dungeons are in a good state. Not sure why there’s so much salt over a mode of gameplay. Dungeons were never hard at any point in this game’s history. People have always wanted to chain pull. Now there’s a timer and phatter loots if you do.
Not if Blizz and their “maximize played time” mantra have anything to say about it… (Surprised they don’t just throw a run debuff on the party when they skip through an instance “too” fast)
people have been rushing dungeons since Wrath of the Lich King 13 years ago when people could get epics out of the heroic dungeons via Valor. they tried going back to having harder dungeons in Cataclysm but everyone complained it was too hard for the average pug group so they nerfed the dungeons so it could be another zerg fest.
people try and pin this on M+, but the “GO GO GO” mentality has been around far longer than M+ has.
Go go go came from players running the same dungeons over and over for rep to get better gear and to get them over with asap.
By the end of BC is was the norm to rush through dungeons.
I remember running Black Morass and The Arcatraz so many times so our MT could upgrade his Shield etc so we could start raiding Gruuls.
People telling you it’s M+ are wrong. The speed running happened WAY before that
M+ is a result of the speed running not the other way around.
Again, the confusion here is between “lets avoid that stuff we don’t need” and “Run through as fast as possible, pulling big groups together and running along this careful path I learned on Youtube so we WIN FAST!!!”
People who think things now are the same as they were back then are either of very bad memory or didn’t actually play in the past. They have changed dramatically, and that happened with the advent of timers and learning to pull dungeons to the timer, rather than experiencing the content.
Coming from last dungeon experience was which launch Cata heroics to my first season of M+ here in SL, it took me hundreds of runs to adapt to the pace of 5 mans this day and age. Long gone are the days were tank marked mobs for CC and pull or even for me drinking after a pack because mana and OOMing wasn’t an issue like back then.
As far as older content, game has been out of a while so you have people of varying levels of experience whether it’s time played, trying out different roles, ilvl, and so on. It’s best to outline the expectations if it is a PUG or with a group that has a similar sets of goals and standards. Like when I advertise my key, I put “completion for vault if not timed” (putting a warning in the note 45 minute or 1 hour time limit so it is reasonable) cause that way everyone gets credit towards their vault if we fail to time.
Because they nerfed the crap out of heroic dungeons because people complained.
There’s simply no reason to do any of this anymore. Everything in normal/heroic/M0 is a complete joke
I’m not gonna crawl through content that is extremely trivial pretty much from day one
Nah dude. There just didnt used to be 20 levels of gear, so you couldnt “outgear” most instances. Youre dead wrong. Very few groups could go into old instances and dps everything without CC. Now its the norm. Its pretty obvious to anyone who has played this game since then.
Panderia. Right after Cataclysm is when it started. We went from “Gawd these dungeons are hard man!” To “Haha, heehee, go go go! Heehee, haha!”
