Mages used to do so much damage, but with the trade off of being the “glass cannon”. Right now on my Warlock I can solo elite rares easily to get keys for Wrathion rep. I logged into my mage today and while leveling I was having problems killing more than a single mob at a time. If I pulled more that one by accident, just literally had to run away or invis. I had no problems at all leveling my Warlock. This is just plain broken.
They can’t buff damage because of the 40% Rop on 45sec cooldown
Would be OP.
Jahfar,
yeap, pretty much!
switch to frost, pull a bunch of mobs with ice lance, ice block until theyre all around u, cancel ice block, frost nova, blink, orb, blizzard, ice nova, spam ice lance and refresh blizz till dead frost nova + blink again as necessary
if your quest objective still ain’t complete, cold snap to get ice block back and do it again
quest will now be complete
if ice block still on cooldown for next quest, pull a bit less but use mirror images and a health pot if u get low but u can still pull a good amount
if u need to kill a high health elite that can’t be slowed or rooted too bad so sad
He’s talking about elite mobs that have like 750k health. While I think it’s not that difficult to kill them, I must agree that it takes forever.
Been maining my mage this expansion and sometimes ngl I kind of regret it.
Hoping they change things around. Having to talent shatter or fingers of frost when they should just be baseline feels awful.
Not enough creativity in the talent trees.
You need a tank to farm Wrathion rep efficiently. Don’t try to solo, join an Obsidian Key farm group using the group finder.
If you do want to solo, recognize that soloing elites is always easier for tanky classes or classes with tank pets.
rop allows mage to deal somewhat comparable dps to melees for 12s instead of doing 40% less
I think all caster is suferring right now, only warlocks seems to be in a safe spot, my balance / evoker / mage don’t feel good with melees mobility in pvp. Hard casting against elite mobs takes forever but not the end of the world either, its manageable, in pvp being the main target for melees cleaves is a pain in the rear, not only for you, but also for your team mates to peel / heal you constantly, melees have too much gapcloser and mobility, they also have ranged CC and some do a pretty good ranged damage like paladin judgement, while we need to manage fake casting and kite, as for me personally, I feel like it’s really hard to get a fake cast against two melees on me, and even when I do I’ve already taken a lot of damage and burned multiple mobility and defense cds. It’s still “playable”, however, I feel that the life of a caster in modern wow is more difficult.
I mean the obvious solution is to take ROP, and set it on fire along with whichever potato has kept it in the game for 10+ years. Seems stupid that after so many years of complaints it’s still in the game when the best thing would be to just delete it and baseline buff Mages or give them something more fun to use.
Mage has zero viable DPS across all specs in Dragonflight. Clearly Mage wasn’t tested at all. Talents barely even updated. Class is the worst in the game right now.
Build speed, spam scorch, wait for three hours for it to die while you run small circles thinking about the amount of work you have to put in vis-a-vis any other class, save rogue, all because of your degenerate amounts of CC that only amount to something in degenerate arenas but hey that’s what this company balances their classes around…
I wouldnt say they are the worst. Maybe hunters. It’s close.
What happened to mages is bad design. The talent trees were simply poorly put together, that’s it. Doubling down on poor design decisions is at the root of all evil that has befallen struggling specs in DF. The devs largely blew the tremendous opportunity presented by the talent tree revamps. They were clearly not a priority and were haphazardly put together at the last minute to predictable effect.
Nothing is likely to change until the first season is over. They can’t even lift their heads from constantly playing whack-a-mole with squashing bugs that seem to pop up 24/7. The expansion was rushed to get it out in time for the holidays and that’s just plain as daylight to see.
Personally, I am very disappointed and taking a few days off because playing rn is nothing but constant frustration between the awful talent designs and the completely unacceptable performance issues and bugs that have been a constant since the expansion launched.
I’ve mained mage since Vanilla, hunter is ez mode comparably.
I’m with you. This is the first expansion I’ve put my boy up on the shelf for evoker. It feels like what arcane mage could (and to some extent should) have been =(.
And there’s just no communication that says “we hear you and we’re doing _____”
No, Hunters IMO are in a better spot. When RF does almost as much DMG as GP while being mobile, and now with a 100% buff coming in for DC. Hunters are squishy but at least my MM can deal some dmg and in certain limited areas of the game perform well.
Huh??? O.o
I wasn’t aware of the game being designed around how much damage one can do at level 60.
I smack people on mage.
I have felt this aswell vs previous seasons, I think its something to do with the 40% Player Health / Creature Damage buff changed the dynamic for a few classes and of course the skill tree options. Also this season seems to favor mobility and instant abilities. To summarize, I don’t think the damage to defense ratio landed in a good spot.
