But they didn’t. They let the leader of one die because they wouldn’t speak up about their collective dissatisfaction with gallywix.
One of them literally died.
They find solidarity because gallywix just made the situation impossible to tolerate anymore. These goblins aren’t saints but they have a line in the sand.
There is a lot of conflict in the story. Gazlowe didn’t even want to get involved in undermine but the shiv pushed him in that direction and then pushed him even further over the edge.

Guy doesn’t know goblin lore. He thought the trade wars had to do with trade when it actuality it was gangland violence. The trade wars got so bad, the last one, the peace wars, almost got all the cartels killed.
The cartels realised, like you said, this was terrible not just for their lives but also for business. So they came together, formed a council meeting and decided to keep the war in the markets only. If they go to battle, they battle with economics and not with bombs and bullets anymore.
All of this is very old lore. So him coming here and talking about “peacecraft” and “goblin factions” sounds like a tourist who just came from his x streamer to complain about how much warcraft is for babies now.

Sure, just meant that after 20 years. There are only so many story tropes, and I am sure most have been used.

The only reason the goblin cartels are getting along right now is because Gallywix moved in and blatantly threatened them all. If one guy wasn’t trying to run the whole show, they would probably all still beat each other’s throats. And once he is gone, I imagine they’ll be back to their same old stuff. then again since the cataclysm, and the continuous attacks by both the alliance and the horde, I think they probably feel safer in numbers.
Oof. Look at all of this supposition; look at another case of the player filling in details for Blizzard to help their “story” in any way land.
“They would probably,” “I imagine they’ll,” “I think they probably feel.”
Another ten years of room-temperaturecraft for us all.
If you’re ready to communicate like a human, i’ve already said I liked the goblin patch it just feels a bit disjointed from the overarching story.
And I mean really, that was my only point before people started getting aggressive lol
It’s called an opinion. Writing has pretty much sucked since WoD, made a momentary glimpse of hope in Legion and has just continued to be lackluster for the most part. You call it supposition, I call it a guess. Since neither of us work for Blizz, it doesn’t really matter. If you hate the story that much, why stay subbed? I mean, you can’t have been playing long anyway with only 13k achievements. Why not cut your losses and walk?
Congratulations, you’ve discovered the recurring theme with everything that person says.

Goblins don’t actually fight each other as much anymore. They made a pact to only do battle via economics, after their trade wars got way too gangland.

You mean their writing since the very start?
…
I’m convinced you people either completely ignored all story about this game, or are looking through it with rose-tinted glasses.
Again, the writing in this game has NEVER been different than it is now.
You think the quality went down… it really hasn’t.
Like genuinely, it has not.
I won’t deny they just screwed up with SL, but the writing itself has always been the same quality.
Bruh…
brightly. mismatched. armor.
The oldest meme of this game.
It was NEVER serious and that is 100% one of this game’s strong points in charm and keeping people around.
It is a cartoon style for a reason. And no that reason is not “that was the limitations at the time”
Their first cinematic is groundbreaking for the time. If they wanted a more realistic game, they 100% could have done it. Especially since other games at the time pulled it off.
Oh and I am merely bringing this up because I have seen it is an excuse people have used.
…
so this game’s writing PERIOD?
This game’s writing since 2004?
Like bruh,
Illidan: cringe edgelord
Lich King: cringe edgelord
Deathwing: cringe edgelord
Like bruh, you are looking through rose-tinted glasses, the writing now is not anymore childish than it always has been.

The better question is why on Earth are we in the Undermine? Is Xal just some background character that pops in like Arthas again and again but for 3 expansions and we just keep fighting rando faction turned bad over and over again? Something tells me this is going to happen the entire saga.
MIDNIGHT BETTER BE GOODER!
This post doesn’t address anything in the posts it quotes at all. The complaint is that the writing has changed in tone and theme, which it obviously has.

I will be the first to claim what I’m about to state is purely anecdotal, but I can’t help but shake a suspicion that the expansions people like are tied to more than just the internal game narrative.
we can spend so much time in a game like this that the acquaintances we make, or simply the state of our lives during the one ‘best’ expansion, that separating ourselves from that perspective may be difficult, and thus an objective critique of the game may always be skewed by the ‘good times’ we experienced that may have well been completely separate from the game.

We’re in the Undermine because Xal is using Gallywix and the Goblins to repair the Dark Heart as some of the design is of Goblin origin. The reason we keep fighting proxies is that manipulation and deal-with-the-devil is Xal’s schtick. She’s powerful but her style is to (literally) be the blade in the dark or the whisper in the ear. The one who gets a person to do what she wants while making them think it’s what they want.
I predict we’ll eventually hit a moment where Xal stops using others to do her bidding and instead goes full Super Saiyan in a “If you want something done right!” moment.

Many people disagree.
It obviously has remained pretty same in quality.
Yeah that super glowy eyed supercharged ginormous evil abomindation with an army so terrifying we can’t stop them despite trying hard! WHERE IS THAT?
Story feels more like a cartoon at the moment, and a bad cartoon you watch late at night cause nothing else is on.

I hate it when you’re right.
You are completely missing the point. I said “tone and theme”, you said “quality”.

Me too.
But seriously. I would love if the story was better.
But its never been good. I dont know why. Great world building. Great lore assets.
Oh.
Well the tone is largely the same. I guess we havent had a poop quest in a while though. So thats a bummer.
