What does "Meta" even means?

I would like to understand the principle behind the so called “Meta”… Every season or expansion I hear this “Oh, it’s the new Meta”… Does Blizzard make certain classes more OP in vain hope that people play them more?

Why not try to make every single class decent so that EVERYONE can enjoy the game… How come you have a Warrior doing 100k DPS in 20 seconds while a Destruction Warlock is able to get two Rain of Fire for 10k DPS… Why? Like… How does Blizzard make their game?

That warrior blew all his cooldowns to hit that 100k like that, I can honestly tell you as Im a Warrior myself

& Meta just means like the research of character optimization in a game

Meta is a term that basically refers to an ideal circumstance. In a game like WoW, basically the ideal party composition for a situation.

You’re gonna have to go to FF14 if you want balanced classes. If you don’t want to do that…then you have to suffer being non-meta like the rest of us xd

Meta in a complete Nutshell means self referenceing

I hate the cooking meta because it keeps making you do other cooking things to cook things to cook things

Nothing can ever be perfectly balanced. In game or the world. Something will always be top and another on bottom. Push and pull.

No, Mark Zuckerberg came up with the term back at Harvard. Some people are going to say he stole it. Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t, there is a movie about it.

adjective

adjective: meta

  1. (of a creative work) referring to itself or to the conventions of its genre; self-referential.

“the enterprise is inherently “meta,” since it doesn’t review movies, for example, it reviews the reviewers who review movies”

Oh, I didn’t realize it was to dissect the word.

Everything is ideal, meta is op

There is also an informal definition which is what most people are using when they talk about spec achievements’s multiple parts… Occuring later than or in sucession to, situated behind or beyond.

I have no idea how they came up with meta to mean spec everyone uses… Loosely one could argue that the Talents are metas and you put one after the other… But even that’s not technically true
