What do you think is after Mists of Pandaria?

As much as I love MoP I’m still wondering a lot of where this game will go in terms of classic and haven’t seen any real answers. I personally feel like MoP is the true end of classic and nostalgia for most of us and WoD onwards is when retail really starts settling in. As much as I’ve tried I just can’t get into retail and I’ve heard the same from a lot of people it just lacks that WoW spirit. Do you think we will just be given about a year of MoP and forced into WoD or there will be something different in the works or the possible end of classic? At this point I’m guessing it’s just a pipeline of getting classic enjoyers into retail.

I think from the start they’ve used Classic to try to get more people to play wow and also try to funnel them more into retail moreover when it’s the same sub.

If mop has a big enough population I could see them going to WoD or even Legion but yea personally I’d want something else after MoP. Maybe closer to SoD but more close to the wotlk-mop era in term of content and gameplay. I haven’t personally closed the door on retail but the current systems, tuning and pacing doesn’t interest me a lot but I still like the raid content.

More Anniversary, Era and Season-style servers are what “Classic WoW” will become once Pandaria has run it’s course. It’s mostly a passive revenue generator for Blizzard - their playerbase is totally mazed and will keep raiding Molten Core until the consequences of their lifestyle catch up with them.

I’d be surprised if Warlords gets a rehash. It’s missing a whole raid tier, includes the much-panned overhaul of character models, and is overshadowed by a world emptied out by garrisons. I think it was the first expansion pack that was a true dud - even if some raiding moments were cool, even if the PvP was passable - in the sense that some parts of the development team knocked it out of the park and others suck-started a shotgun.

The mapping was incredible and done with a real vision. The writing was completely off the reservation and the kind of Final Fantasy-derived drivel that the game would become and stay up until the current retail content.

Warlords of Draenor Classic. Where else would it go? Anyone who thinks they’re just going to stop while Classic makes money for minimal effort is coping

Also, Legion is where they start to codify all of the systems and designs that retail is largely known for

Man I can’t imagine a WoD classic or it being successful by any means but idk. Literally only ended like 9 years ago.

I wasn’t a fan of cata but it did work out. I don’t think WoD is that much worse than cata btw if we do like cata and speed it up and remove the 1 year last patch. Always could be an issue if MoP population goes down but I think it is probable.

Honestly WoD wasn’t lacking for quality, its biggest issue was a lack of quantity. Namely one patch pretty much being dedicated to a selfie camera, and another just being cut entirely. Class balance was diverse and pretty fairly balanced, the leveling campaign was actually enjoyable, garrisons were a nice concept and just needed a bit less profession focus, and the raids were actually good

The problem with taking that quote at full value is that if you assume this then they released 2 raids in the first patch. They did have a messy patch release schedule which they fixed in Legion and on. But unlike mop WoD simply didn’t have much content outside of raids being released until Tanaan jungle.

Farming apexis crystal early couldn’t even get you a full gear set, it was mostly pvp if you didn’t do raids and that’s it when MoP added so much content outside of those 2 it felt barren for many.

I also feel like with SoD ending and them giving transfers to MoP for free from there, it might be the good way to consolidate a lot of classic and possibly end the progression from there and leave the classic servers to be Era or maybe reveal something else hopefully classic + cope

They did say with the end of SoD that they would do something else like it, the question is what and when.

Yeah that would be the ideal outcome, would be great for some clarification hopefully soon. I guess it’s kind of disenchanting hopping back into an old expansion with no real idea of how long it will be there and if all your time and effort of playing it again and progressing will be worth it. I guess that’s kind of always been the struggle of these classic servers though.

know blizz they might just push out wod classic since it’s low effort to keep these expacs going and gives them chances to sell boost packs or whatever. some subs + boost pack sales is better than $0.

for some reason classic players will gladly continue playing the slop expansions, most likely cuz they don’t want to let go of their chars they been playing since 2019

this should’ve stopped at wrath, and became wrath era, and then they re-start with separate vanilla servers.

aight. enjoy WoD and the 6.1 patch where the 2 major features were a self stick and twitter integration. considering they removed twitter integration in like DF, ur getting a major content patch that adds a self stick

I will, thank you. WoD leveling and raids were really good, and the condensed release cadence of Classic as a whole will do wonders for the issues the expansion had with a lack of content quantity

Everything after MOP was legit terrible especially for pvp’rs. MOP had one or 2 good seasons and rip

Retail is absolutely horrible.
They need to start over with classic vanilla and build a new wow

I see them continuing Classic progression train into WoD, Legion, and beyond. Every version of the game is great, and every version of the game has and has had haters.

It certainly isn’t dichotomous though that they will either give WoD or some new Classic variant. We had TBC and SoM, Cata and Season of Discovery. I’d be surprised if there were no new variants of Classic, whether 1.x content, or something based on one of the earlier expansions.

The same monthly subscription just keeps giving more and more access to amazing game content!

Id guess theyll probably let you roll your characters over to retail or sod or something. I cant see classic moving past mop. Mop is even a stretch for “classic” tbh. Cata was the true start of retail. Only reason ill play mop is because it was a really fun xpac. Great zones for leveling, fun raids, great pvp… The list goes on. WOD was an absolute abomination and even if they do continue expanding, i dont see myself continuing to play at that point.

i hope if they proceed past MoP that they maybe expedite WoD into legion fairly quick. i dont want the release WoD experience of waiting around for content.

As long as it is still earning money than I do think classic will continue on. Mop is a pretty liked expansion which will encourage them to continue into WOD. IF they do WOD they will definitely do legion. Let’s be real Legion is usually ranked as the best expansion in public polls. There’s no world where they do WOD and don’t do Legion.

After legion is where it get’s iffy to me, but if this continues to earn them enough money, they may just continue all the way to retail. As the realms get closer to modern retail. This is also a strategy to get more people into retail as well.
