What do you think dwarf ale would taste like?

It would be a wee heavy. A somewhat sweet malty brew with very little hop flavor. The dwarves are too cheep to buy hops and they do not grow near Ironforge.

Industrial degreaser.

This is the only kind of alcohol I will drink.

Cigar City makes a good brew. Even a Dwarven laddie would be happy to drink it.

As for my answer to the OP’s question: Let’s “science” it.
-Dwarves are physically dense, so normally I’d assume they would drink something with high alcohol content. (There’s a “But” coming)
-They tend to live in mountainous towns and inside of said mountains, in places such as Ironforge.

Despite their physical heaviness, I think their beer would probably be a bit light. Living inside of mountains would have likely have historically limited their access to nutrients. They’d probably have developed light-alcohol, nutrition dense beers to make use of limited growing seasons and crops. Almost like a medieval beer, kind of like a porridge.

Limited mountain crops mean wheat and hops would be big candidates for most brews, meaning they’re likely to be rather bitter.

Smokey flavors would probably be common.

There. “Science”.

You know us well, madam.

I feel like it would taste something like honey-mead with a kick of bitterness.

Oghren says dwarven ale taste like dirt, probably because it’s made with dirt.

Makes me wonder what the various herbs of Azeroth taste like, perhaps they use those (including earthroot?).

Now I wonder what arc wine tastes like…

I can see dwarf ale being hearty and dark. Something to keep them warm.

At the minimum it would be a revved up IPA.

This is about heads on.

I do have to tinker yer point a wee bit though lad!

Main point bein’ that ye correct on the light drink for an in general goodness.
Dwarves would drink ales and brews as their base drink. No teas water or nothing. Light ales with good nutrients would be the “healthy” drinks seen at lunch and breakfast etc.

Meanwhile supper and heavier brew meetings would include the hard stuff.

As for those talking of the 60%. Yes and no. Dwarves would likely build an extreme tolerance to brews thus making them drink more and more to get drunk. It’s more so about the quantity. There likely would however be dwarves wandering in the ideas of the “strongest brew” in order to sooner attain the buzz.

I would say Dwarves would explore everything brew and ale. There would be no true dwarven ale. It would be much like what irl has. But for overall themes? I would say dark heavier ales for real drinking time dwarven lads.

As a huge dwarf fan I just wanting to comment and give appreciation to all the explanations of what dwarven ale would taste like.

Wish I knew about this when they were making it. One of my best friends lives near Tampa and she would totally go with and try it. We played D&D for many years and she knows my love of anything dwarf related.

I did find some shirts on the Fantasy Brewmasters site that were pretty neat. A dwarf carrying a keg and a pair of goblins sneakily stealing some of it. lol

It’s an “ale” not a bitters though dwarves seem like bitters guys and gals. Maybe a darker ale like “Old Speckled Hen”?
