What do you think about Archon's show-parses-in-tooltips addon for retail?

I get that but this addon only brings what people have had for years into the game, doesn’t really change anything lol.

The addon doesn’t show parses for Normal or LFR so if you’re pugging those it won’t affect you at all.
And I suspect that most people who will use this addon were probably just checking people’s logs anyway. I don’t know, we learned to live with IO and now it’s in the game so we’ll learn to live with this.

Considering the festering pool of misery that is m+, I’m not sure that statement is as optimistic as you intended. I have absolute faith in this community to use any tool provided to them malevolently.

Honestly this addon isn’t necessarily something that the general population need to have access to and I’ll give you a good reason as to why the demographic that will misuse this the most, the toxic casual crowd.

People will download this, take it as gospel, but they also won’t know what they’re looking at either because they’ve got a collective of two braincells both fighting for third place.
Especially when certain specs don’t have a high player count so a good player of an underplayed spec will potentially parse lower than someone who’s doing average for a higher played spec just by sheer numbers alone giving them a larger range to slot themselves into for those %ile rankings which is even more relevant for the mythic parses which only requires a total of 5 kills to start showing, nobody on prog is playing for parses or at least ethically they shouldn’t be.

Yes, players do look you up anyway in higher keys to see your performance in both raid/logged keys to avoid inviting brickmasterx to their group which is a valid strategy when making your own group. But this definitely shouldn’t be mainstream due to the general pop’s inability to understand the dataset.

In all honesty the people behind this addon should ask them selves “Just because we can do it, should we?” the answer a lot of time to that question when it comes to situations like these is a resounding no.

Parse culture is weird because if it isn’t farm content there’s little to no expectation to parse well and if it is farm content then it doesn’t matter.

No one should care that I zug-zug tunnel brain on farm content when looking at whether to invite me to a key or not since I don’t have much need to pug raids on the character that has enough kills to register.

Oh, fair enough. I just like to try and think positively. Look, any group that is going to needlessly gatekeep is probably a group I don’t want to be in so this just helps you avoid the try hards. Sure there will be some growing pains like with IO or Gearscore back in the day but I think it will calm down once everyone is used to it.

I think parses are overrated. They rely heavily on comparing players with similar specs, setups, and item levels—but that doesn’t always paint an accurate picture. In my own raid team, we have members who consistently parse grey, yet they’re always doing mechanics flawlessly and pulling top-tier damage. So clearly, the stats don’t always tell the whole story.

The system seems to reward players who tunnel the boss and ignore mechanics, while punishing those who actually contribute to the team’s success. That’s just not how real teams work. Sure, logs have always been there for those who live and breathe parses—but now, with how easily accessible parsing tools are in-game, it’s taken a sharp turn. The difference now is how toxic the community has become, and unfortunately, that toxicity is only going to get worse.

Take a solid player who ends up in a group where others are underperforming—their parse is going to tank, no matter how well they play. Or someone doing every mechanic perfectly but lagging in raw DPS—their parse will suffer too.

Just my opinion, but I’d love to see us go back to the days before ilvl and parse percentages were treated like gospel—back in the pre-WotLK era. When people actually communicated, supported each other, and focused on growing as a team.

Maybe its just a long time player pipe dream.

All addons shall be banned, not “just this one”.

Banning “this one” will only result other same or similar ones emerging, and worse ones in the future. That is just how the community is and how players behave.

You can’t change community behavior because it is human nature. The only way is to complete cut off addon access to the game systematically and technically. It means every single addon will be banned, without exception.

My view has always been very clear: Ban ALL addons. Addons are WoW’s cancers. It is THE biggest problem of current game that kills slowly.

It should go. It reeks of WotLK gearscore, which was horrible for the game. On top of that, parses don’t tell the full story. DPS that don’t due mechanics and just tunnel and stand in bad are naturally going to get higher parses than those that do the mechanics properly. Healer parses are also going to be lower unless they they do things like tell the DPS to stand in bad so they can pad the meters.

It can be an indicator of player skill, sure, but… I’ve seen people who can parse incredibly high but are mechanically braindead, don’t understand mechanics, don’t interrupt or CC, etc. Stats can be good, absolutely, but you can never tell the full story by them alone

As a pvp player i feel really bad for pve players and the fact that they have no automatic solo queue option for real end game stuff. I got Blitz and Shuffle, pve has nothing. and no delves are not end game lol.

Maybe we can’t, but certainly changes to the game can and have changed community behavior.

Looks like using my bubble to park in bad, avoid interrupting and making my big pink bar bigger is on the menu boys!

Mechanics? Bah. For tanks and car dealerships. I got a number to make bigger!

(For those who don’t know, I’m being sarcastic and basing parses for m+ is dumb)

Its just going to end up being another tool that is intended as a convenient way to show progress, that is then used to gatekeep. And usually the people doing the gatekeeping will be the ones with no parses or clears.

protip: Serious group leaders are already looking up your raider io page on a second monitor. You’ve been getting declined from groups for your bad parses and lack of experience for years whether you’ve been aware of it or not. This addon ultimately won’t change anything other than you’ll be declined 10 seconds faster.

The only real fix to this is for blizzard to break warcraftlogs, and that would have dire ramifications.

I didn’t realize Shadowed Unit Frames, Dominos, Litemount, etc were killing WOW. Thank god you showed up to help the community.

I always take posts from level 10 Warriors as gospel in particular ones that use cancer to make their point.

I don’t play with people that insist on following “meta” and using parses. That stuff is not relevant for anyone outside of world first guilds. So it won’t really affect me.

It’s just a case of entitled people thinking they’re better at the game than they are, and wanting someone to carry them.

I’ll stick to LFR before I ever have anything to do with that “community”. When I do raid normal or higher, I go with my guild or a friend’s guild and they don’t care about that stuff. My hardcore raiding days are behind me anyway, I’m too old and in too poor health for that now.

Blizzard can absolutely break addons like this if they wish though, let’s see if they do.

Honestly I don’t mind. Some people might use it to judge on who to take but if it means I’m being taken after they have looked at everything I offer as a player (good parse or bad) then I think that’s good.

Rejection has never phased me, just join another party.

Then you will do in the future. It just takes time for you to realize it.

So, they’re basically bringing back the Gearscore addon from the Wrath days. Man, I’m glad I only run group content with friends and guildies. I remember the days of getting rejected from groups and accosted in whispers for not having a raid level Gearscore to run Heroic dungeons.

Realize what? That I like customizing my UI?

Genius take.
