What’s a main? I have 16 toons (10 Alliance on one server, 6 Horde on another, from the Good Old Days when one account couldn’t have Alliance and Horde toons on the same server), and I play them all.
That said, I generally play through the leveling experience with a single toon at the start of an expansion, while parking the others someplace where they will accumulate rested-ness. After that, it’s driven by which toons’ professions are most needed for that 10-toon industrial collective. I eventually manage to get everyone to max level by the end of an expansion.

A Forsaken Destro Lock.
Forsaken because I loved them in WC3.
Destro Lock because I have always enjoyed it’s play style. I fiddled with DA Demo when it was a thing, and had a blast, but destro will always have a place in my heart.
This guy has been my main since the beginning, a few months after launch. Well, Khoivo was, but things happened and I lost that account then created this one, but whatever, the rest is still the same.

Warlock since I started baby, I have 12 level 50 locks so far since leveling is my favorite thing to do in game, and lock never gets boring to me.
Pen, here, is my favorite and one of my original characters. That said, I usually start a new expansion with my aff lock as they are a good blend of damage and survivability.
I main DH because it’s fun and I like it and I’ve enjoyed DH since WoD when it came out in the Legion pre patch.
Sticking with DH, respectable. DH is a fun class, love vengeance

This was my first character I ever created in 2005. At this point it feels odd if he’s not my main.
Normally I main mage or priest. I am tempted to main SP this time, but skeptical it will remain viable, so probably will do some combo of mage/priest/lock, with the “main” among those varying depending on balancing and what I am enjoying the most at the time.
My hunter, because they get sh*t done.
I started picking up the tank role because a guild I was raiding needed a tank so I filled that role. I carefully picked which tank to play and so far I really enjoyed Blood DK and BrM Monks. I’m picking my Blood DK as my go to for SL. The feeling of tanking with a 2H feels so satisfying that it almost feels like I’m DPSing rather than tanking.
i have 50 characeters like 40 at max level and i have deleted like 10 max level characters just to create new ones and i still don’t know what to main.
Bad thing Bood dk’s got nerfed to the ground and their dps will fail so bad 
I dont have a main yet. Maybe my hunter to begin with because its easy to play that character.
Are you referring to current state or at SL level cap?
I mained Holy Pally through Wrath. Loved it. Once I got some respectable gear, I could heal through near anything. 2 healed 25m ICC with another Hpally.
Then Cata prepatch dropped. Suddenly my mail legs, shoulders and bracers, along with the cloth chest were junk. Holy Power. Toon was absolutely broken, as far as I was concerned.
Haven’t played Hpally since, I don’t care how much people like it, I despise it.
I check what my team is going with and try to fill the gaps to help our success rates

Always be this one. She slogged 1-60 on a PvP server back in the day (uphill, both ways), so I always let her lead the charge on my alt army.
Not a single one of my Retail characters are here to post on, just my classic characters I haven’t used since forever ago.
Anyways, my Hunter first and Warrior second as I play mostly Solo and can’t commit to anything time/raid or other guild wise. My guild is just myself and my wife (and a couple family members that haven’t logged in for 4+ years), lol.
