What do you guys think about lowbie ganking?

I find these answers to be such a lazy excuse when they come from level 60s. People like you or I, that leveled on a pvp server on day 1 had a totally different experience than people today leveling on pvp servers with established level 60s. I didn’t have to deal with overgeared BWL edgelords when I leveled, and same for you.

BS. The ultra sweaty try hards were level 60 within the first week and camping Redridge, Duskwood, and other low level Alliance zones. In addition, I didn’t get to level 60 until after Phase 2 and got camped everywhere I went. Horde raid groups were camping every level 50+ zone.

I’m sure you got camped. Earthfury was a server overwhelmingly alliance dominated and p2 was pretty bad for us on the horde side. But the key thing is that you’re talking about level 50 zones, you know, when you start being worth honor. This champion of the horde is going for, and shamelessly camping targets that aren’t even worth honor. You’re simply proving my point that leveling then vs now is a very different experience.

Tbh this can be stretched to fit even the PvE aspects of the game thusly:

WoW (and MMOs in general), especially back in the time Classic wants to emulate, is about prestige. It’s about getting the thing so you can feel like you’re better than everyone else. Whether that’s getting a high level to exact revenge and payback on those still unfortunate to still be low level, or finally getting that new rank, or that piece of gear that’s been eluding you, or being one of the first/few to get a legendary so you can parade around your faction’s city and show it off. That’s what it’s all about.

And the ones who remain unlucky will flock to the forums to mount an assault for their distaste by circumventing and belittling the ones who have attained what they are still seeking.

That’s all it really comes down to.

But people still camp the low level zones today. My guild always groups up in Darkshire before rolling out to ZG, and there are still level 60 Horde running around ganking the lowbies. I don’t usually gank lowbies not worth honor, but that is a personal choice of mine. Doing so is still within the rules of PVP servers.

Oh yeah, for sure they are. You’re on Grobbulus, a fairly well-balanced server. Earthfury is now more horde leaning since most of Incendius came to our server, but when these events occur, it’s not too hard to get 60s to do some payback time. The dude is on Skeram, a server with legit 1% of the population being alliance. PVP happened on a PVP server, but it’s not just a level 60 ganking lowbies, it’s someone being a bully. So it’s the story of a dude that likes to be an internet bully.

No, it’s just PVP happened on a PVP server.

Okay, that’s your opinion. Let’s agree on disagreeing on that one.

I mean, people make smurf accounts in mobas and fighting games to prey on newcomers and those who can’t get as good at the game. Whether you think it’s right or wrong is irrelevant. People are going to do it.

…I don’t do it…

…then why ask?..

“Its just a video game”, pure sophistry. This argument applies when you are playing an AI or a single player game and take your frustrations out by running around defeating trivial content and NPCs.

But this a about behaviour to fellow players. Ganking a low level is no biggie, although I never did it when I played on a PvP server.

The only reason I can see for continually camping a low level is to get pleasure out of trying to make the game unpleasant for another player. There seem to be a lot of players that find this “fun” and is one reason why I don’t play on PvP servers anymore. I’m really not interested in hanging out with people that have this attitude whether they are on mine or the opposing faction.

I believe the above is why PvP servers tend to die off and did so in Vanilla. It gives me hope that most people don’t enjoy this behavior

Been ganked on my lowbie alts more times than I can count by alliance 60s.

Told me nothing about the Alliance.

These sorts of statements are the definition of asinine. As if both sides don’t have players who gank every lowbie they come across. Hint: They do. Your faction isn’t pure lol.

Not interested in it. Doing so can burn up free time the other player may have very little of. I can relate. If someone wants to 1v1 or duel me I’m up for it. But I don’t go forcing lopsided matches where the opponent is offguard/outmatched/uninterested in fighting. That does absolutely nothing for me :woman_shrugging:

Levinger here I was in the vid! You cut out my sick mlg gouge though. I agree ita like an event and is very fun. Its like a raid boss came to town. Nothing ia more fun than eventually locking a 60 down with stuns and beating them to death with 12 level 20s. My only gripe is how horde dont have such obvious towns to gank at and their guards are almost always 55 making this tricky for me to pull off.

I still remember this happening way back in early 2005 when I did use to gank in Redridge once in a while (like I said I find it boring now). I was ganking the lowbies at 60 before most of the server even got to 60 and at one point I got swarmed, stunlocked and killed. They must have felt great.

I have been told that I am on KOS lists and I’m even someones arch-nemesis. This is just from ganking greens and above to honor farm. I don’t even tend to camp. My point is it’s not necessary to grey camp to get name recognition if that’s your goal.

It’s good to hear from someone in the video. I’m guessing you all didn’t roll on there as alliance and expect to have things easy.

Trying to get this particular point across to someone is pointless, the only people who understand it are the ones who have played both sides or look at things more rationally than they do.

I kind of like the faction pride, anyway, whatever keeps someone playing is good for the game.

No 60 can match the might of some level 30 something rogues and a paladin to keep us up as we rotate stuns. It really does feel satisfying.
And it’s not about building a name its about the world feeling alive and dangerous. Is it unfair? Yes just like the rest of the game. Rogues will stunlock you 100-0 shamans and warriors can get lucky crits and one hit you mages can perma polymorph you. Its an early introduction to the fact that classic pvp is all about how much you can meme with your class.

Yeah, when all the lowbies in Redridge “rise up” and get a 60 to support with tiny heals and slows it can make the massacre that much more fun. But I usually just rocket helm / sap the 60 and if they don’t ice block the lowbies all die during the stun. :-3

“ItS jUsT a GaMe BrO” A game that has real world time investments. This isn’t just “PVP LAWL BRO IT HAPPENS” He specifically said lowbie ganking, which has no benefit other than to waste a real life persons time.
