What do you guys think about lowbie ganking?

sign of skill.
same category as abusing pets and probably done by the same people.

There is plenty of pvp to be had on a pve server. Flag yourself and you will be attacked. Then they will be flagged. boom pvp Sorry about your loss of unfair advantage.

its pvp on a pvp server

i did enjoy all of the psychoanalysis in the thread however. people comparing killing other players in a video game based on killing other players to sociopaths etc?

I guess these people never killed an afk player in overwatch, or smoked someone having connection issues in a moba, or shot a newbie in a fps.

no one is going to claim ganking is difficult, or requires special recognition, but its also just a video game and part of that video game if you freely choose a pvp server.

if you want to psychoanalyze someone, maybe point that high powered perception at yourselves and try to figure out why other players killing you in games offends your feeling so much that you need to project that onto other people. you’re making conclusions on the personality and emotional health of a person because of how they play their cartoon cow? yikes.

killing wizards and zombies in a video game about war is the same category as harming or torturing living animals? yikes!

Cope.

Being killed once to be shown someone who is the boss is around? Fine I do not mind that. Being camped and effectively not be allowed to play speaks a lot of the person likely with the napoleon complex who got bullied in school growing up.

if getting killed by another player in a pvp video game affects someone so deeply, i’d suggest THEY are the ones with emotional problems.

Lowbie ganking is just the verification that the ganker has a small member. Go easy on them.

both involve a disregard for the victim and both are commited by the powerful over the powerless for reasons determined exclusively by the powerful.

i think dismissing my argument requires a little more depth than ‘yikes’.

victim? powerful? it’s a video game.
you never played a video game on easy?
you never killed a civilian in a rpg game? witcher? mass effect? assassin’s creed? red dead redemption?

i guess everyone that plays cod or fortnite and shoots other players is a serial killler by your logic?

its a video game!!!
if you sign up for a multiplayer game about war, give your consent to be attacked on a pvp server, then get emotionally affected if another player kills you unfairly? no i’d say “yikes” is about right.

then you want to make the leap and compare killing fantasy video game players with fireballs to the actual torture and physical pain to an animal? that’s a double “yikes” and makes me feel bad for any pets you have. getting killed in a video game is a minor inconvenience at best, and one you consented to.

It’s situational.

Did you go to redridge in raid gear with the only intention of camping lowbies? Yeah you’re degenerate.

We’re you traveling somewhere to farm, do a quest, help a buddy out, etc. And you came across a lowbie in your travels and killed him for fun? That’s fair game and I encourage it. Especially if you are a priest then have all the fun possible with MC. Drown him, run him off a cliff, run him into a pack of mobs, and move on.

It’s the intent that really matters here.

Pretty BS IMO. I did it once in a while and always felt kinda bad. Only reason I did it at all was because people did it to me.

Now i only kill players lower than me that give honor, and usually only one that have a rank next to their name. Otherwise why ruin someone’s questing experience by being a jerk.

Never understood why people think ganking lowbies is scummy. People act like the level 10 player is a 5 year old.

i dont see how one counters the other.

within the video game there are victims and powerful characters.

Not something to flex about in all honesty. I get the “fantasy” behind it for certain classes, but seems boring, and causes, well, what happens to your server, a one sided Faction.

I find it extremely PETTY that a geared player needs to grief lowbies, go grief someone on your level/gear, but then again, you don’t care, you’re on Skeram, sad and pathetic.

You’re just bullying people though.Take no skill, you get nothing from it in-game. If it makes you feel like a big man then great. You got some problems though.

victims or power in the context of what? imaginary pixel magical powers?
if getting killed in a video game causes any emotional pain or anxiety in a person, they should log off imo. especially if its comparable to the torture of a living animal.

you sound unfamiliar with the concept of roleplaying…

I don’t consider these players as “5 year olds”, what I do think is the behavior behind the “ganking” as “scummy” or, better yet, disrespectful. It’s a respect thing. For example, I understand why anyone, regardless of level (or who they’re attacking’s level), would engage in PvP:

-They take a node/Quest mob before you.

-Are fighting against an allied member.

-Are in major cities (defend your cities!)

-Actually worth Honor.

Other than that, I see no reason to essentially harass other players just because you can. Of course, it’s just my opinion. What I find worst, though, than those who Gank, are those that roll PvP Servers and cry about getting ganked.

Pretty sure if the game allows them to be flagged for pvp. It’s not bullying. I assume you feel the same about Geared players killing fresh 60s or sub 60s or afk, or while fighting mobs, or coming out of stealth, while they are trying to cap a flag in pvp, or Literally anything besides a Duel.

You may not get anything from it directly but other players trying to level in the zone benefit from less opposing faction. And other opposing faction players benefit from not have to contest quest mobs. Seems like it’s a civil service! :stuck_out_tongue:
