What class do you think fits a Witch more?

I know it’s not WoW lore but what you said reminds me of Hagatha from Hearthstone.

She’s literally called ‘The Witch in the Woods’ she’s an Orc Shaman and is an antagonist to Gilneas in the Witchwood series.

I don’t see any harm in taking inspiration from other sources and I can definitely see Shaman working well for a Witch theme.

Warlock, since that would be a witch?

That was easy!

Shaman. Turn people into frogs.

Is that when you cut your bushes into animal shapes and send them to attack?

I was thinking more along the line of witches who herbal remedies, love potions, etc., though that may not be the best term.

It is kind of weird what they did with Shamans in WoW; but I guess between mages with polymorph, Warlocks with their dark arts, and Druids with the whole nature magic category covered I guess real life inspired Shamans would have probably been redundant to a large degree :recycle:

war·lock

/ˈwôrˌläk/

noun

  1. a man who practices witchcraft; a sorcerer.

No not at all!

Shamans work in both games well. Warcraft lore has them as initially nature callers but with the way power is ingame they are more nature ‘wielders’.

They’re differentiated from say a fire mage because they call upon the elements rather than necessarily just harnessing the ability to make fire.

Shaman fits the more Nature vibe
Warlock fits the more Salem Witch vibe.

If spooky is part of your vibe, then warlock.

If it’s elegant, then mage.

If it’s earthy, then shaman.

If it’s blood stained, then Death Knight.

If it’s blood thirsty, then warrior

If it’s death in the night, then rogue.

And so on.

I meant more a realistic true to real life Shaman, which in IRL Shamanistic societies Like those of North american native americans and north asian people are basically Druids and witch doctors; communing with the spirits of nature and the dead for various effects: like healing, hexing, nature manipulation etc, essentially a mix between a Druid and a Warlock.

Definitely. Could go either based on what you’re going for in your character lore.

I personally prefer Warlock but that’s likely cause I favour the Drustvar witch ascension theme.

@Hernex: Love it! Native American vibes.

Totally depends on what style of Witch you want.

Pointy hat Harry Potter style slightly academic Witches & Wizards with full robes and wands, maybe a staff if you’re lucky? Mage all the way. Arcane, specifically, would be the most fitting in general, but if you wanna be a typical RPG “Mage” “Witch” whatever you wanna call it any spec works, since you tend to focus on an element in that environment.

Pointy hat, green-skinned, hunchbacked evil cartoon witches with the mole on the nose and your typical “witch cackle”? Then you’re gonna wanna go Warlock. You’ve got all the curses and draining spells there, as well as the general aesthetic from Tier sets.

Witch Doctor / Voodoo style? Then you go Shaman. Mostly for Hex, but the Lightning and such fits well enough. Stick with Elemental. Maybe talent the AoE root for a bit of extra flair. Honestly this is the weakest one though. You’d almost need to go Troll to really sell the aesthetic.

warlock is the closest yet not quite… you can see how a witch would ressemble in wow by playing in the drustvar zone.

Balance druid (with the glyph of stars) could work for a certain type of witch.

As Ventorath said, all depends on the type of witch.

Hogwarts witches are closest to mages. Sabrina witches are more like warlocks. It depends what fantasy you’re looking for.

Druid for Wiccan, lock for satanic. Druid’s obvious, I always thought that a male witch was a warlock.

I mean… a female warlock is just a witch, no?

I suppose Shaman…but their spirits side of things are not as in your face as the elements are.

It depends on the mythology, really. Sometimes it’s based off of gender, sometimes it’s based off of the style of magic regardless of gender, and sometimes there’s no real clear reasoning behind it (eg. The Witch-King of Angmar).

and shaman for hexer
