He has 1246 HP unbuffed and gave up a lot of damage/threat for the extra health and armor. A well geared warrior or rogue would easily rip aggro off of him.
The number one job of a tank is to hold aggro while being tanky enough to facilitate everyone else doing their job, and you can’t do that without damage. Giving up 40% of your damage for some extra health and armor by taking stam gear and a 1H/Shield isn’t an option.
As far as if it’s a paladin problem, maybe, but the fact remains that a pet shouldn’t have wildly more armor and health than a mail class in BiS or close to it.
How come you talk so much, but you say so little? All your posts are jibberish crap that misses the point or dances around it. I honestly think you have a problem in the membrane
if hunter pets are fine having more armor and HP as me, a shield warrior specced to tank, then id be fine with warriors getting a pet that follows me and shoots people with a bow
They don’t have more HP and armor than you under normal circumstances.
They do when you compare your unbuffed char to a pet with 5/5 in endurance training, 3/3 thick hide, BM rune and under the effects of lion. Remove any of these factors and you are tankier, don’t worry.
If your raid comp intends to take a hunters pet as the off tank (and thus take another dps) it is acceptable to get the 5/5 pet health over iaoth. You are trading a smaller loss of dps than your raid gains from another dps instead of 2 full tanks.
But pets will not be able to solo main tank anything with adds. Pet aoe aggro is nonexistent.
Fair enough, but if you invest 8 points into pet tanking (+ rune) I think it’s fair that the pet gets tank level of durability. It’s still missing the crit immunity.
What it doesnt get is tank level avoidance. But it has a hidden strengths. Resistances. Its able to get a decent resistance rating in basically any spell school. And you can compound this with your own gear as the pet does gain some of your resistance as well. This doesnt really matter much for current bosses, but it might be very useful later.
hence my joke about getting a hunter to shoot a bow as a pet since pet tanks are comparable to me when both specced to tank, but the hunter is still there to shoot at range doing at least decent dps
Why are we comparing armor value to classes stuck at wearing mail right now? Pets can’t be defense capped, can’t wear shield, have bad threat generation, are only decent if you spec BM, etc, the list goes on.
The level 25 cap is really bad and is causing a lot problems that will be fixed organically later anyway, you guys are too bothered with this game, relax a little.
