What are your ideas for writing an original book?
I have mine:
I could write a book about Law Enforcement, but it would not be like the usual paranormal thriller books about Policing. It would be more about mundane and gritty tasks that Police Officers must handle. I thought of making a realistic Horror-Thriller Police novel about how it relates to the Human condition and its emotional impact on Police Officers. I think that would be a very good idea for a book.
You’re working with a really strong idea that deserves to be explored. A horror-thriller grounded in the real, often overlooked struggles of police work feels fresh and important. Instead of relying on typical action scenes or supernatural elements, focus on the slow, emotional wear that the job causes—the exhaustion, the moral conflicts, and the haunting moments that linger long after a call ends. Building your story around a character who gradually unravels, set against a city or town that reflects that sense of decay and pressure, creates a powerful atmosphere. The horror here is subtle but deeply affecting, rooted in reality and the human experience. If you lean into that, you can create a story that really stays with people.

Subject caught my interest. I didn’t know police novels involve the paranormal? Sounds dumb if they do. The rest of your description sounds like a Netflix series I’d want to watch if it were set in an intriguing location (not some typical US city).
Hmmmm. My ideas on writing an original book would include some upfront planning. Some authors write without knowing where it will go, like Lee Child, but I think that I’d just ramble without direction.
At the top of the pyramid are the two choices: comedy or tragedy. No other choices here. One follows one of the main characters and they are given a choice to change – if they do not, then it is a tragedy. Then, backtracking from the Ultimate Decision, each scene with this guy has some thing that will factor in that final choice.
Let’s take a simple one that most know, Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts has a great part but she never changes. Richard Gere, this is his movie, he is the one who changes and each scene leads up to that. This movie is great because it throws a curve ball at us. She is given a choice, to live in luxury, and she says no – this is tragic! Terrible ending. But, after that, he decides to change and it is now a comedy.
I will never has something Microsoft like Is they will never ever get a red out me,
Huh? I don’t understand what you wrote.
