When I listen to this piece, I imagine someone riding a horse up to the top of a bluff overlooking the sea. The camera moves out into the sea and the music depicts the undulation of the waves. A trireme is seen and the camera closes in on it. You hear the hortator hammering the beat as the music indicates each sweep of the oars in unison. The sun begins to peek over the horizon as the trireme enters the harbor and passes through the shadow of the colossus. The steersman hears something and looks aft. The camera heads back out to sea and closes in on some sirens who are awakening and beginning to sing to lure sailors to their doom.
