Yeaaaaaaah but Sargeras basically got Fel Cancer and then used it to try and consume the Pantheon’s bodies with it.
I only comically call it fel cancer because Fel works kinda like radiation.
In a way I would consider it. Buuuut not every instance of something being destroyed or broken down is bad. Kinda like how people used to intentionally start little forest fires to aid in the forests growth. I forget the reason why this works. It reminds me of a booster shot
Anyway its a little tricky to try and think “Oh energy only changes. It isn’t destroyed” when we got all sorts of magic hullaballoo going on. And the fact that Fel can absolutely annihilate someones very soul.
Fel is power that most fear, however some have learned to embrace it rather than fear it.
Nuclear waste? It always felt like nuclear waste to me. Can cause cancer, radiation, highly toxic but comes from a powerful source.
I have no idea and I like it that way!
It’s a form of chaos magic that is formed from the destruction of life.
Hence, why warlocks use soul shards to fuel their spells.
It’s demon pee. Think about it, there’s next to no toilets in WoW.
It be cool if we got a Soul Cairn realm like in Skyrim. Explaining the limbo souls are trapped in
Is it the only power that can do so?
Besides making him fel corrupted, did it actually change his ideas? Are we not so certain that he could have easily been the same thing under the light? In a lot of cases it’s you either join the light or die.
There are a few plant species that require forest fires as part of their life cycle.
I’d amend the original statement – chaos isn’t destruction, but it can be destructive. I say this about all of the various kinds of energy in WoW. None of them are inherently, 100% “good”, and none of them are inherently, 100% evil. It’s all about how they’re used, and to what purpose they’re directed.
Yeah it really matters how you look at it. You can argue fel corruption is a form of reincarnation. If you become corrupted enough, you just reincarnate in the twisting nether. Sure the cycle can be stopped, but that’s really only if someone hates you that much.
In this specific manner? Kinda.
If I recall. Fel just hurts extra bad for Titans so that would be a bigger threat than The Light. The Light is just another branch of Order magic so to a Titan it probably does nothing to them unless you like. Drop a Light Nuke on them or something
I don’t see what’s so difficult about this. It’s easy. Fel is fel. That is all.
TLDR at the very bottom.
We know a little bit about the 6 cosmic forces. They keep adding more info over time though.
Here’s what we know.
Fel is the physical embodiment that represents the concept of chaos.
The reason it’s so easy to use is because it wants you to use it. If you’re untrained and undisciplined and have access to powerful magic, you’re just going to end up spreading more chaos. Which is what Fel ultimately wants. If it can offer you a lot of powerful magic up front with very little effort or training; and then corrupt you into doing what it wants, then that’s ultimately how it spreads it’s influence in the physical universe.
To contrast this, the opposite of Fel is Arcane which represents order.
Arcane takes decades of intense studying and training to be able to use. It wants order so in order for you to use Arcane magic you need to be disciplined and not chaotic.
The 6 cosmic forces are known as “Living essences”. Think of them like The Force from Star Wars. They’re an energy field that covers the entire universe. It penetrates all matter and is everywhere all at once. And people who are especially sensitive and attuned to these energies can tap into them.
The 6 Cosmic Energies are Light, Order, Life, Void, Chaos and Death. These energies exist outside of our physical universe.
Within our physical universe they are represented as Holy, Arcane, Nature, Shadow, Fel and Necromancy. These are the powers that our characters are able to tap into.
The beings that live outside of our physical universe that exist in the actual cosmic energy can’t enter or interact with our physical universe. So in order to spread their influence, they send envoys that act as representatives of their essence.
For example, the Void Lords can’t enter our universe directly, so they send Old Gods into our universe to do their work for them. And each essence has a “realm” attached to them. Like the Shadowlands is the “Death Realm” or the "Void Realm, or “Light Realm”
The representatives of each realm are;
Void - Old Gods
Light - Naaru
Order - Titans
Life - Wild Gods
Chaos - Demons
Death - Dreadlords (With new information from Shadowlands)
There’s a theory that hasn’t been confirmed that depending on how many of the representatives are in the universe determines how powerful they are.
For example; There are only 10 Titans that we’ve ever known of, and they’re the absolute power of the universe. The fact that there’s only 10 of them suggests that they each get a larger portion of the finite amount of power that they’re able to draw on from their respective realm.
Conversely there are innumerable demons. Billions, if not trillions. And that’s why Demons are so weak. Even the ones at the top of the power scaling like the Pit Lords are fairly weak. Mannoroth was taken out by a single dude with an axe. (People like Sargeras, Archimonde and Kil’Jaeden are not demons. They use Fel magic and are part demon allowing them to respawn in the Twisting Nether, but they themselves are not demons that hail from the Chaos realm)
And then every other living essence in between has some amount of numbers in between varying their strength level. Life having a lot more Wild Gods than Titans, but not as many as Naaru. There are hundreds of Old Gods that Sargeras has slain over the centuries. We don’t know exactly how many Dread Lords there are, but I would probably put them somewhere between the Wild Gods and the Naaru.
So then the next question that might come up is; why is it that a being made of pure Arcane energy is able to tap into the Life magic like Eornar can. Or why can a Dreadlord tap into The Light?
Because every single physical being in the universe has the potential to be attuned to one of the Cosmic Energies. Despite being made of Arcane energy, Eonar is still a physical being that can be sensitive to Life energy. So she taps into it the exact same way a Druid would. (Just on a much higher level)
This is why Illidan who had an affinity for Arcane Magic was able to also tap into Fel, and then have the Light forced on him. If you’re sensitive to it, you could potentially wield it. (Or in The Light’s case, they can force it on you.) But you’ll also notice that Arcane abandoned Illidan once he took up the Fel magic.
Likewise, there are Undead that can still use The Light since their faith in The Light is so strong and they have; what they believe is; a righteous cause.
Fel also isn’t more powerful than other forms of magic. It simply gives that illusion by offering up a lot of power early on.
A novice Mage is nothing compared to a novice Warlock because the Warlock gets a lot of power up front, where the Mage has to study for a long time to be on the same level.
But a master Mage would blow a master Warlock out of the water. No contest. It would be easier than swatting a fly away.
Warlocks have a very low skill floor, while mages have a very high one. But a Warlock’s skill ceiling is also very low. Once they have the power, there’s not a whole lot of room for improvement. Where a Mage’s skill ceiling is vastly higher.
TLDR: So what is Fel?
Fel is The Force. One of six.
The reason it’s so easy to use is because it wants you to abuse it’s power. So it makes it super easy for you to do that. It’s also super corrupting and can’t be trusted because it wants to spread chaos through you so it gives you a ton of power up front.
Reason for Edits: Adding more info as I went along. 3 edits.
Its the second law of thermodynamics
Fel is something we say when we don’t want to use the other word.
“what the fel!”
Fel is the one of the ingredients in lock cookies
titans are autobots they dont bleed
