When is disc NOT either a tempo-oriented W key or dampener style healer except when its overtuned?
It has less CC and single target throughput than every other healer that it trades for the highest consistent damage, the most defensive CDs and burst AOE healing coupled with very efficient low hps/hpm passive attonement healing.
I think this is kind of your point that there’s no reason to play disc unless it’s a specific comp/style you want to play, but what comp do YOU find fun?

Probably the most fun you can have in 3’s on a disc priest IMO. Some ppl like RMP but that’s really where you let the RM do everything and you throw a fear out if everything is already DR’d
