What’s a WoW memory you’ll never forget

The first time I rolled up to the Ironforge city gates in Vanilla.

After plugging away at boars and troggs for an hour, it was the moment where the scale of the game really became apparent.

  • My first raiding experience. I was randomly approached by a paladin in Grizz Hills who asked me if I wanted to go to Naxx, they needed a kiter. Obviously, I was trash at this since I didn’t have the slightest clue how to do it at that time. The group was super great though, got my Safety Dance achieve and had an amazing time, and yes, they even taught me how to kite.

Once Naxx became soloable, I used to take the guild’s newer hunters there to learn kiting using the zombie chow since it was a controlled place to do it.

  • The guild’s first run of ICC when it came out. Got the Njorndar bone bow from Lady Deathwhisper, my first piece of loot from a raid.

  • Being “assigned” a sniper squad in one particularly eventful Wintergrasp. A paladin took charge of our side because we were failing hard; we all figured why not give it a go. We became an army of well oiled cogs and it was the best PvP I’ve ever done.

  • Had the worst day at work, so I was just wandering around Storm Peaks and happened upon Skoll. Tamed that guy and named him Fate. He wasn’t my first spirit beast, but he’s the most memorable one.

  • When I started the game, my first character was a Nelf rogue named Kafaruo on the Lethon server (PvP) where the game put me when I hit create new character. Me and a friend were leveling in Westfall because she’d made a human. Some Horde, I don’t even know what race they were, came in and was getting pounced pretty quickly so I took my level 11 self over and tried to give him a stab. A few seconds later an achievement popped up and I was very excited. I actually enjoyed Lethon’s pvp, but my friends moved to Runetotem and I decided to join them.

Best way to be introduced to world pvp, imo, just get dropped onto a pvp server from the get go. I had no idea there was a difference between the servers, so I didn’t have any anxiety over it. Now, world pvp is a distant memory. I know my class, but once I see a red nameplate everything goes blank and I fumble around like a chump while trying to engage.

I’ve got 15 years worth of great memories from WoW. Good times.

I was so new… That or my first raid in wrath in naxx. I loved the gear so much I got a 3D print of my DK Gothicbeef still on my desk to this day. My blue tauren frost DK.

My sister started “falling through the world” because the zeppelin glitched. She was just in a continuous fall. I asked her if she still could move her mouse and she said yes. So I grab my lock and 2 friends. Put up a summoning stone and summoned my sis out of said glitch.

Killing Firelands Ragnaros for the first time with my guild.

We couldn’t make the jump to Heroic and disbanded shortly after.

Has to be defeating LK on 10 man heroic. We were really quite awful players but we were determined, and when we finally killed him it was a beautiful thing.

In my newish years of wow, I liked hanging out in the starting area as a lvl16.

An orc invaded the area around my lvl, and was killing like lvl1-5 people.
So a random priest came up to me when I was busy having a campfire with kobolds, and said “Kill that orc!” And so I did… I just wish I remembered that orcs name cause it felt nice to help out pvp wise.

and that’s why I kill horde attacking people now

I’ve two. Waaay back when, my original toon, a warlock, fell into the ocean in the Plaguelands. I decided to see what there was to be seen and swam around the entire continent. Too bad there isn’t an achievement for that kind of crazy.

The second was when I was trying a healer spec and my friend was trying fury warrior. We ended up fighting something near one of what I term the ‘brutosaur bus’ lanes in BFA. I was doing very badly and aggroing and about to die when one of the brutosaurs happened by. I discovered I could jump on, so did and escaped the fight – barely. Had no idea that was even possible mid-fight.

Had no idea it would work, we both found it funny and still use ‘Brutosaur’ as a warcry.

I’m pretty newish to WoW, started a lil before SL was announced, so I don’t have much, but after I unlocked Vulpera I joined an rp Vulpera Guild called The Fox Hole and it was super fun, we often gathered to do fun activities together. It was my birthday and we had a gathering that day and during the activity (we were having a race) somehow birthdays were brought up and I brought up that it was my Birthday, everyone dropped what they were doing and they threw me an impromptu birthday party. Just bunch of foxes having a lil party. It was nice, I was given a mount and a pet.

I miss that guild, at one point when I was asleep they had a big argument in the discord and when I woke up the discord and guild were both gone without a word. Never been able to get the same level of socialness I had in those fun few months.

Helping a gnome complete the robot chicken escort quest in Feralas. I was just culling some yeti when this gnome runs up, does the cry emote, and then runs to where the robot chicken is slowly walking by.

Sure we were on different sides but I hate escort missions more then anything so I happily helped out.

When burning crusade came out. I remember my jaw hitting to the floor when my first quest blue chest piece (about an hour into the expansion) was not only better than my purple chest but CRUSHED it in every way.

Found a leveling buddy/guildie back in TBC who wanted to level a holy priest, but didn’t want the grind. I wanted to level a prot pally, so we duo leveled together. Looking back on it, that was some of the most fun I’d had in the game. We were both in school, so she and I ended up having to both take time off, and we never went back to those alts afterwards

I remember when I started playing the game as a Night Elf Warrior in Teldrassil and just chilling back in Wrath doing quests and meeting random people. Was fun, so I decided to try these battlegrounds cause I had no idea what they were like. Only thing I remember was being yelled at and treated rudely by someone in chat I guess that thought I was throwing the game. It was then I realized this community is very very rude and immature.

funny/stupid people in barrens chat
was the best/worst of times

Shortly after release, taking one of my first characters, a Dwarf Hunter on a road trip to Kalimdor to tame a “laughing hyenar” as soon as he was leveled enough to do it. Pity that someone decided to give the beasts a “cuddlier” appearance and the “Snarler” movement. Gods, I hate the new skins.

Getting the legendary Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest while it was current content. Felt very honored to be picked by my guild at the time (Eventually [A] of Spirestone) to get one built.

The icing on the proverbial cake was seeing my likeness riding Tarecgosa over stormwind and seeing people in trade ask, “who just finished their legendary” and then getting tons of “grats” whispers and wisecracks in trade chat.

Makes me miss when servers were their own communities

Had a friend who made a troll hunter alt in BC. He really wanted an owl pet but I think the only place you could get them was around Darnassus. So he makes the long trek there on foot and gets killed multiple times along the way. Me and another friend was encouraging (and laughing at) him.

He finally gets his owl. He says what should I name it? We were like NAME IT BACON!!! He said that’s a stupid name but names it Bacon anyway. About 15 minutes later he asks how do I change my pet’s name. We’re like you can’t dude. He said what a load of crap and some colorful words, deleted that hunter and never started another. We had a good laugh at that.
