Were covenants supposed to be so "meta"?

One way to put it is that they gave the character/user the ability to willingly hamstring their own character.

it aint that bad.

if i look at firemage covenant sims for example. theres a ~400dps dif between the worst possible and the best possible.

youd have to really try n pick the worst one to really feel it.

Agreed NF is meh all around for Pally’s, but not as bad/noticeable for Ret as that’s just a few % DPS difference. But I’ve had other Holy Pally’s tell me not to bother healing if I don’t go Kyrian.

I forget the name of the ability, but basically H Pally’s don’t have any good mass heal spells, but the kyrian ability gives you a very powerful mass heal with a 1-min cooldown. I’m told I would really struggle without this ability.

I’ve been told not to bother tanking if I’m not going to play VDH.

I recommend not letting other people tell you how to play the game. You’re clearly enjoying NF as Ret, maybe you’d like it just fine as Prot or Holy. I play my Monk “wrong” and it hasn’t held me back any.
