Until you reach end game and there’s absolutely nothing to do. There’s nothing rare to farm, builds are limited and unbalanced; progression for your character once you hit 100 is almost nonexistent. People are already rerolling a week after launch because their character is maxed out.
is it better than D3 launch? Yeah, but what kind of standard is that to follow? They purposely released an unfinished product that’s very much in early access. The game launched with five classes in 2023.
Sequels should be more than their predecessors. It took 9 years from RoS launch to give Diablo fans two steps forward and four steps back.
I disagree entirely. It has more content than any Diablo ever and is more fun and challenging. The only negative I agree with is the lack of paladin/crusader it should have been 6 at launch. That and the sorc is trash, it’s simultaneously the only S tier tank while being a melee DPS(this goes entirely against sorc class fantasy) but that’s really it.
How? I’ve been watching my RL friends play it and there’s zero challenge whatsoever.
There’s no set items, there’s no leaderboards; some of the uniques are missing, there’s very few uniques in the first place; legendary powers are nearly all some form of do x and receive x buff for x time. It doesn’t even have SoJ.
It’s going to take half a decade before this thing is a good ARPG, just like it did for D3. Are expectations for video games so low now? People just accept a good looking ARPG with a ton of recycled dungeons and a non existent endgame loot hunt because it has the Diablo name?
Lmao literally everybody playing the game agrees it’s the most difficult Diablo ever made and end game forces you to respect the mechanics. Your friends are prolly still leveling
Goes against the design of D4. Set items worked in D3 because the game was extremely simple. D4 offers a vastly more complex theory crafting experience.
What mechanics does it force you to respect? What are you talking about? Every streamer I’ve watched talks about how bosses do literally nothing and present no challenge whatsoever. You can climb the Nightmare Dungeon tiers for no reward and it’s basically Greater Rifts. Ever play Diablo III on release? How is this harder?
It’s like somebody turned the CERN hydron collider on and altered reality to make people think D3 wasn’t the biggest disappoint in Blizzard history at the time lmao. Game had the difficulty scaling as if it was designed for 1 arm stroke victims with cerebral palsy.
For an actual “small indie company”, D3 would have been a solid first game release.
For a Blizzard product, it was a tremendous disappointment.
D3 was fun enough to play, but the story was garbage (PARTICULARLY for Blizzard), the item affixes were so stupid (“OH WOW JUST WHAT I WANTED ON MY CROSSBOW – STRENGTH”), and Jay Wilson was as lousy a lead dev as Brian Birmingham was for WoW Classic.
Your experience isn’t indicative of others. A very large number of players quit once they get gear. Alts get played per lockout not loot. You don’t gear another guy because your fully geared. You gear both because of the lockouts. More alts tend to lead to more burnout as well. It’s not so simple as just shortening the tiers. It’s not black and white lots of other factors play into these things. My view is I enjoy playing classic and feel no need to rush through mop in the next 2 years.
D3 was the epitome of the Blizzard shift from making games from developers who cared and put their alls into it to the corporate hellscape it’s trying to PR recover from. I remember it was around that same time the big forum doxxing happened too where they switched all our accounts to our IrL names on account lmao
D4 honestly feels like the next gen D3 we all wanted. Dark, gritty, challenging content, and Andariel and Duriel are back.
I’ve watched my buddy play for a whole bunch of hours till level 61 and saw him die a single time so far. I’ve watched numerous streamers playing Hardcore and none of them have died.
What challenge is there?
No leaderboards until season 3. We’re talking 8-10 months from now:
