Weekly Mythic Quest Reward Was Incredibly Disheartening

I know this will seem like a silly or pointless complaint to some, but I just felt a strong need to put this out there.

Some guildies and I got together last night to complete the four mythics needed to complete the weekly quest and get ourselves a nice piece of 213 gear. We are in a very casual guild (the word casual is even in the name), so our group was comprised of PvPers, under geared dungeon runners, and people who haven’t even seen the inside of a dungeon yet this expansion. We knew it wasn’t going to be a cake walk but we were confident that we would get them done eventually.

The final mythic we did was a +2 Plaugefall. It was fairly late at this point and all of us were pretty tired. We wiped an absurd number of times on the last boss as we were all a bit too out of it to properly deal with the mechanics by that time. Nevertheless we eventually dropped her and completed our quests.

I was excited to see what I would get, as any slot would be a huge upgrade for me. What I received, as a Prot Paladin, was this item: https://www.wowhead.com/item=184017/bargasts-leash?bonus=6805#comments
I couldn’t believe it. I read the Use effect over and over assuming that I was misunderstanding what it did, but I had not. Disappointment washed over me in waves as my exhausted brain came to terms with how useless of an item I had just received.

I’ve been playing this game since vanilla and, like the majority of WoW veterans, have experienced many different generations of disappointment with acquiring gear. Whether it was Hunters Need rolling on melee weapons back in the day, or chest after chest of weekly loot filled with items I never needed in BFA, I have seen it all. This quest reward though, just felt different. It felt discouraging.

I know that a +2 mythic is comically easy to some. I know that this complaint will feel worthy of an eye roll to many. And I know that others still will find me worthy of ridicule for posting this. But a quest that gives you a “piece of loot for your chosen specialization” should not give you something worthless to your spec.

It is unlikely that I will ever seen the inside of a Heroic Raid this expansion. This was one of my few chances to get myself a sorely needed piece of gear that I likely would not be able to replace for quite some time. And I received an item that basically mocked me for being excited about it.

This isn’t some post where I loudly proclaim that I’m unsubbing. I don’t think the game is “Literally Unplayable”; and I don’t expect to receive a shiny new trinket from a GM in my mailbox as reimbursement. All I can hope is that someone at Blizz gives this post a read and that the loot tables can be adjusted to prevent this from happening to more people in the future.

Players should never get to the end of their difficult journey and receive disappointment as a reward. Particularly when you have been guaranteed something great in advance.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk I guess.

Wow, that’s an exceptionally bad piece of “Raid” loot… who would ever want that (except maybe a healer that always has a tank buddy when he plays the game). Terrible gear design by the dev team on that one.

our group all use it on the healer and stand in puddles to kill them and blame them for wiping.

Yea I got the same useless piece of junk as well. My heroic dungeon trinkets are actually better (even my pvp trinket). We all wanted less proc trinkets and more on use so I think it’s just the devs trolling and messing with us agian. Alot of the trinkets this tier are trash.

i got a great trinket. however, my husband got items that occupy the same slot as his legendary, that was kind of a big ol dud.

I got one of these from LFR and the disappointment is real. So much for loot feeling more valuable and rewarding.

It might come in handy to use on DPS that pull on their own

I’m confused. What do you want the gear for? I didn’t really see in the OP what your actual preferred content was.

… what the hell is that trinket?

People want gear to be deterministic.

You know, how it used to be? When WOW was good?

Kill boss, don’t get item, kill again till you do.

No one wants to open their lootbox and get junk, when their guildmate gets BIS, when you both put in the same effort, especially when the system artificially gates you.

Great trinket…no. But I bet if someone was creative they could cheese some big hits with it

What? I understand the issues with loot drops right now.

This really isn’t that bad of an item, depending on what you’re trying to do.

Its a bad item if its an item you’re not going to use.

This is the core issue with gearing in WOW right now, the gear isn’t determanistic, and we can’t aim for what we want.

People actually enjoy min-maxing, its pretty much what makes the RPG genre interesting long term, getting an item you’re not interested, even if its good, doesn’t mean its fun, and yeah we can argue about ‘wrong choices’ or ‘illusion of choice’ but i’d rather have those then no choice at all.

Which is why I asked what content the OP is even trying to gear for.

I had the EP version of this trinket and loved it. If he hates it because he doesn’t see it ever being useful then maybe I can suggest some scenarios that might change his mind.

Its a GREAT item for raid tanking. Those bosses have some really strong tankbusters, and if you use the leash on your offtank, you make the healers’ jobs easier by allowing them to use AoE, HoTs, and passive heals to mitigate the damage instead of pumping all the healing on one person. Resto druids, resto shamans, and holy paladins (that have two beacons) will be perfectly pleased to watch you share that damage around.

However, it is worthless for solo play and pretty bad for most M+ (maybe tyranical week with a tankier dps?). Thats why its a trinket you can only get from raid: because thats where its good. Its unfortunate that you got it from the quest though. :frowning:

Because you find welfare Blessing of Sacrafice on a trinket to be a good thing doesn’t mean OP does.

To him, his loot roll was wasted entirely and has to wait another week to roll the dice again.

Just because you think the item is good doesn’t mean he wants it, it would be like a warlock getting a healing trinket, and you arguing “Well you can use it to increase your self healing!”

I could easily see linking a DK or DH for some easy mitigation, in an even somewhat organized group.

That’s cool, man. I just wanted to see if I could help OP feel better about his trinket. I don’t know why this is triggering you so hard.

You got a piece of gear you dont need after you admitted you and your guildies dont do content worth mentioning … whats the problem?

Because you’re trying to excuse the issue OP has by saying “But its a good trinket” when that wasn’t the point of his post.

Not in the slightest, but you do you.

I got my best in slot chest piece and it felt awesome.

The fact that some people feel so awful is definitely disheartening. I would feel upset too. RNG shouldn’t be such a huge factor in things like this. it should feel like a nice happy bonus to everyone. Sure it can be a bigger bonus for some (getting, say, gloves instead of a chest piece), but it shouldn’t feel awful.
