Find the slowest weapon in the tier of content you’re doing, aim for that. It wasn’t rocket surgery.
It’s more that blizzard made it so weapons had one scaling stat instead of two which is a more sustainable model. Although it would have been hilarious to see Naxx weapons with like 5-6 second swing times.
Pre-normalization melees are absurd. That’s how you end up with world of roguecraft when you make Barman Shankers hit harder than BWL daggers. Melees are strong enough in 1.12, they don’t need this absurd buff.
Since it hasn’t been directly stated, Normalization did not affect the weapon’s damage. So abilities would do weapon damage + normalized AP * weapon speed + ability bonus damage. Using a fast weapon in the main hand would still cause you to lose dps if speed is the only change.
You’re exactly right with this statement. That is exactly what effect normalization had.
Faster weapons were still dirt, it was meant as a way to tone down damage in pvp and help the item creator’s butt stop being sore.
