If this were true you could just download the right addons and join a HoF guild. This is something people say when they don’t understand the skill difference between people in say a regular CE guild, a HoF guild, a top 20 guild, or one of the top guilds. Each one of those is a completely different league of skill.
STOP Blizzard!

WAs are currently an essential means by which deaf players can communicate core mechanics of a fight with one-another mid-encounter, and I do not trust the WoW team’s UI/UX designers to make up for even a fraction of this.
The GM of Undaunted, well known as “the deaf guild,” did NOT have very kind things to say about the fact that universally bricking WeakAuras is effectively gatekeeping them from doing what they used to be able to do anyway.
You don’t fix a broken toe by amputating an entire leg.
The appropriate response is to add accessibility features for that use case. Not to keep WA around.
And they will not do this, especially not in the capacity that WAs were able to accomplish this goal.
See the problem now?
WAs took far too much control over the game out of the devs hands, so no I don’t see a problem with them taking control back.
This implies that Blizzard has the capability to do this. It doesn’t seem like they do. WeakAuaras was made over the course of 15 years. The leader of Undaunted posted earlier today that the level of customization needed for them was significant and that they did not think Blizzard was up to the task
People hate change and will always just say the new way won’t work. I deal with this on a daily basis and then a week after we make the change people get over it. The blowback is always extremely overstated.
I am well aware of this pattern, people don’t like change – that’s true. But this is a fundamental shift that Blizzard has clearly underestimated. This will not go quietly, just you watch.
I am watching, and encouraging their action.
did they ever tell you how they were verifying that you actually did so?
It’s easy to tell. An example is 3 people get targeted by a spell. They each have to stand in specific places, so before the fight the raid leader marks those each with a marker.
Then, when the mechanic happens, the 3 people that get targeted automatically say the icon. So one says star, another says diamond, another says square.
I am not a fan of design like this, they make it so fast that you kind of have to use an addon when in mythic raid for this kind of thing. A good example is Ovinaxx from nerub’ar palace
ah, gotcha. makes sense!
I always wondered if there was some tracker that people had, that would call other people out if they didn’t have the add on or weak aura installed.
I try to respect people’s wishes though. Like if they say discord is mandatory, I’ll join Discord. Or if they say certain add ons are required, I just leave.
It’s not needed. A good raid leader will be able to see someone got the buff without the weakaura working.
Blizzard could design with this in mind. If each of the 3 players got a slightly different debuff … one turned blue, one turned purple, one turned yellow then they could play without weakauras but with the same difficulty. “If you turn yellow, run to star!”
and they all have a strict addon requirement. skill isnt doing what youre told when the ui blares a horn at you and tells you to move. Youre confused as to what skill is, and it doesnt come with a download button.
That is something that can only be said with a surface-level of knowledge about the topic.
i’m actually really looking forward to this aspect of midnight. all the casuals who could easily be RWF raiders except that they refuse to use addons are going to finally have their time in the spotlight!
Addons do not change the pecking order. You are confusing causation with correlation.
Thank you for this!! Ahhh at least I have something to look forward too. Seriously, this made my day a bit better thank you ![]()
I dunno… This is a wonderful sentiment, but I think it might be misplaced. Parses will still be a thing as they clearly said combat logging and data analysis that is not real-time will be intact, so Raid Leads will be looking up candidates that want a shot at RWF on Warcraft Logs. Those that don’t have pink parses can certainly find a group to try, but they simply have no shot at world-first. Max discussed his screening process for Team Liquid and he said some 90% of applicants don’t’ have the parses for him to even give them a try-out.
Players at that level of skill will come down a bit in overall performance without addons, like all other players once combat addons are removed for all. However, thinking that a player that can get a pink parse with an addon is still not going to wipe the floor without an addon, for any contender that didn’t already have a pink parse (e.g., casuals at purple and below) seems unlikely.
