Weak Auras addon project closing shop

putting a lot on it just being xbox

the discussion was consolification specifically

being on gamepass? yes that might be helpful to audience size but also I think that would be another in a long list of questionable business decisions by Microsoft with gamepass.

Right when there is mass cancellation of Game Pass by people mad at prices being doubled?

Just read it, glad I didn’t buy the expansion. This one is a deal breaker for me, and I’ll watch closely hoping they reverse course, but it’s looking like my sub is done with midnight. ggs

Blizzard can’t reverse course at this point.

Not only would Ion suffer public embarrassment (which is the most important factor), the devs would have to completely re-code midnight’s API, so midnight would never be ready for launch if they changed course at this point.

And that’s not even mentioning the fact that the addon creators have already left, so there’s no guarantee that they come back even if blizzard does revert the changes.

Same! It’s sad to see the community not rallying together around these developers who’ve supported the game for an eternity.

there’s a second console you know, technically a third

The major addon developers have all be playing with the Alpha as soon as it opened on 1-Oct (right after the deep-dive / Q&A).

The WeakAuras team can see the API changes and had this to say:

These changes obviously do not affect just WeakAuras. While we can’t speak for other addon developers, we know that many combat-related addons, such as nameplates, damage meters and unit frames will face similar challenges and may take the same approach [to simply close shop]. Also these changes don’t just affect combat related addons, but also severely limit for example chat addons.

So while it’s early in Alpha and Blizz might change things, their philosophical stance seems to be that changes to the API related to real-time information (both combat and non-combat) is not being reverted; that impacts chat addons (such as screen readers).

This is shadowlands covenants all over again, only they don’t have a ripcord they can refuse to pull.

The vast majority of WoW’s loyal playerbase views this game as a hobby. Our ability to customize our experience is a fundamental driver of enjoyment. Take that away and we have an uninspiring story (as of late, anyways), mediocre graphics, and an actively hostile dev team.

This might be the first expansion I straight up don’t even play. I disliked shadowlands but I still played it, at least a bit. Midnight is looking more and more like just another RPG, and if I’m going to play an RPG there are dozens of better options.

I’ve played this game since 2005.

because they’re the ones choosing not to adapt, no skin off my back, others will fill the void, as it was when weakauras took over what we had from powerauras

Dont tell a guy at blizzard you dont like something in your house because they gonna burn the whole house.

You can still customize

sure

even more of those people are already playing FF14 though

WoW would need like 2-3 years more of solid good turnaround press with housing and transmog to be absolute fire and for FF14 to stumble harder than it has to have any hope of that being much of a pickup for them.

good news, ff is stumbling and will more, the slated combat rework is being doomed worse than this

When blizzard first said they were thinking of breaking weak auras and OmniCD, I never took it seriously because I knew the game would be dead without them lol.

But here we are

Yes Blizzard burn the addons burn them all no more beeps and boops telling people what to do :dracthyr_yay_animated:

Yeah I felt pretty confident that they’d do some pruning of the most excessive stuff and was fine with that. After they put in their own rotation helper, I didn’t expect addonpocalypse.

I build my own weakaura packs. They aren’t anything special, but they’re publicly available on wago. I position my reminders and rotational information on my interface in a manner different than the majority of off-the-shelf options. I adjust every aspects of these reminders to suit me.

I do not see anything to suggest that blizzard will offer a level of customization that is remotely close to what I currently have.

This is hands down the worst decision Blizzard has ever made, and that’s saying something. I’m so irritated by this I’m not only participating on the forums, but I’m doing so on my main character, nothing to hide. This decision is awful, and I don’t see any hope unless they reverse course.

The fact they’re even willing to consider this is enough to make me think maybe I just need a different hobby, one without such a hostile authority.
