Pope Leo XIV (formerly Robert Prevost) is now the current Pope and the first American Pope!
I never thought it would happen. Most of the time, we had Italian and European Popes. But I think the South American-based Pope Francis set the motion for Popes from other continents. Maybe after Leo XIV, we will get an Aussie Pope?
He’s not a Yankee; he’s from Chicago.

No beard and not big enough to be a Bear. Too old to be a Cub.
Yankee or Yank has a different meaning depending on the person who says it. Anyone outside the US or from the the South (USA South) would consider a person from Chicago a Yankee.

I took their comment to be a baseball reference. New York Yankees. He’s from Chicago.
I do love the fact that the new pope is the first pope to have English as his native language since the days of Middle English.
There is all kinds of memorabilia they’ve come out with here in IL with “Da Pope” on it. T-shirts, coffee mugs, hats…you name it.
