We need to talk about Prot Paladin

Tank specs are fine in arena as long as they can die. This meta where you put two live lord classes with a tank spec (prot pala or guardian) and then the game almost always goes into ultra deep damp unless you do % based damage.

It would require more effort from blizz, but I’d have no issue with prot specs if a) they could die b) did less dps than a healer even rsham or hpriest and c) provide legitimate buffs, utility, and resources.

As someone else said think bard, or minstrel from DAoC.

We aren’t discussing raiding that i know of, but i’d be an idiot if I thought that talent trees were built in a vacuum.

I guess, hypothetically, they could now add glad stance back as a pvp talent. How do you see that playing out? What would it look like?

  • Prots might take it, depending on what it offered.

  • Arms? Would they get to keep their 2h in main hand with shield?

  • Fury? SMF is coming back with Shadowlands, so that would be a viable spot for it to find use.

Not trolling: How do you see it designed as a pvp talent? would it allow shield slamming for dps warriors? Would it silence? Would it purge? Would it knockback and/or knockdown players?

Well considering WW is the lowest dps class for raiding, but clearly a beast in pvp, then the clearly pve don’t mean crap in pve.

Glad stance increased your dmg done, decreased things like armor and was mutually exclusive with D stance.
Shield slam after the nerf didn’t dispell when in glad stance had to dance over to D to purge with shield slam.

Could have been fine to stick around

Im all for nerfing prot pal. But can we nerf locks first kk thanks.

Not sure how it is in higher rated arenas but a prot paladin, in the world and in bgs and stuff set up and geared appropriately is dumb OP with how things are currently set up. Not disagreeing about locks / mages though however gotta call it like it is.

Don’t mind this idea at all but they are topping damage in arena and it’s like why play a dps

What specifically don’t you like about prot paladins? Is it because it’s a ā€œtankā€?? Well so are warlocks, dks, dhs, mages, boomkins, most classes have the ability to survive into deep dampening as good or better then a prot paladin.

People usually complain about classes that they don’t understand. There’s a lot of ways to counter prot paladin specifically. Cross cc on your goes, cc the guardian, Mass dispel spell bop and bubble etc. also they do like 15k dps lol it’s pretty awful.

The only tank worth complaining about is a guardian imo. The entire mechanic of a guardian is to survive and force out deep dampening. They do passive insane healing and passive mitigation for their teammates. They literally just stand on who your killing and spam moonfire…

Prot pallys with wings throwing out 300k heals instantly is an aids mechanic that allows bad teams to escape kill opportunities from the other team.

It’s one heal… they can only do that once per wings. While wings is up ur hand of protector heals 200% and the first heal is a crit. You can do one hand of protector during a wings.

Also maybe you should try to cc the prot during a kill. Just like you have to cross cc other classes that can prevent a ā€œgoā€.

Its one heal that is in a 12s base cd that is reduced by 3 seconds for every shield charge you cast? Wings is 30s cd you dont just fit 1 in that duration stop trolling.

Expecting comps besides mage lock to cross CC enough to not only CC the healer but also the 2nd healer aka the tank? Nice meme man. I know you are dumb but gdamn u musta chugged a paint barrel.

Only the first heal during wings heals for a decent amount which he clearly stated and this is just another situation of not understanding what a spec can and can’t do.

Now let me link you the azerite traits that allows your first heal to do this.

It’s called righteous conviction. It’s the first heal only. Just remember knowing is half the battle and now you know. So don’t complain about 1 heal every 2 mins maybe?

Yes i understand the GUARANTEED CRIT part about the first heal per wings, the spell doesn’t need to crit to still do 300k since the spell is increased by 200% of the targets missing health :).

And yes ty for providing the broken azerite trait that we all know, which is not for only the first heal, but for all of them while inside wings. Read the trait and test it urself dumbo.

Prot does’t run righteous protector in PvP they use Seraphim. Just an FYI.

So literally it’s 1 heal per wings and the first one. Which again was clearly explained. Hopefully you will understand the spec better and take advice on what to do against them. Which is to cross CC during your go or perhaps… Go when wings is on CD :man_facepalming: I know total 5 head right.

I’ll tell u this my hand of protector at the end of a game is about half of a locks self healing lol. Also the talent that reduces healing by 3 seconds is bad imo. Seraphim is the best which again allows for one big heal per wings. Outside of that it’s like 30k hand of protector heals lol

Werid on my pally I can hit it for 200ks playing righteous, and I don’t q into prot pallys anymore thankfully but they never played seraphim and I dont see why they would know when all their job to do is live until dampening and make sure their teammates don’t die since they play a prot spec and will not die to most comps.

They aren’t Guardian druids you have no idea what their role is obviously if you think Prot’s role is to go into dampening. Seraphim is by far the best talent it isn’t even close.

How cute you added a screen shot. In a 4 min match a Prot can do 18 heals. Sooooooo 18/1.7 mil = 94k avg heal. Which mean he had 2 big Wings heals in a 4 min match and the rest were tiny. :rofl:

Everytime I’ve come across a prot in 2s, doesn’t matter who they team up with, about 2 or 3 mins into the game someone just gets deleted from 100% in like 3 seconds and its not TD.

How are they doing that? I’d like to try to learn a counter.
