We need to have a balance discussion about "censorship"

Agreed and I avoid them. I don’t want to get sucked into the Cavemanville any more than I want to get sucked into Snowflakeville. I also often wonder if some of that is them just trying to piss people off…because they get off on it.

Your assumption that WoW was not a safe place is Ludicrous in the first degree. I have never been humiliated about anything that has been in a game for the 17 years I have been playing WoW. Come on it’s not like someone can grab at you thru the screen. ROLLEYES. Now you want to talk shenanigans that are on the lewd side visit -your OWN Goldshire Inn. The newest hot spot that never existed years ago. ( maybe the subway dark corners ) existed, but he horde does not have sex parlors in any of their towns, only the Alliance side…figures~

Don’t you guys think the Den of Mortal Delights is referring to sex? That kind of proves the game caters to men, since women don’t like sex.

Who told you that women don’t like sex…You are hilarious if you believe that.

You stud!!

But I think in all honesty there are many questions one could ask about this kind of thing, that at the heart of it your gender shouldn’t matter, you shouldn’t use another human being just for sex, that said I am not sloot shaming, it’s okay if it’s all consensual between two adults,

But make sure you consider other people’s feelings and don’t pester people for naked photos.

What the hello are you on to?

Voice chat destroyed my world view.

Maybe it has all been a plot and we are just using voice changing software and there really are no women.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but in my opinion it’s this sort of attitude that may indirectly perpetuate sexual harassment towards women, as you see what it does is create this ‘real girls don’t play wow bro’ mentality, i.e. selling people this idea that women don’t play this game, which is of course not true, they do.

While it may seem innocent, or some of the people that are saying this are simply saying it because they don’t want to be catfished or whatever else, but I would see any seemingly innocent statement or joke like that can actually be harmful if it perpetuates the notion that gaming is for girls, rather then the fact that girls are gaming in equal numbers these days, is in fact the status quo.

Spot on with the history - I lived through it as well. I can honestly say, if there was a woman / girl / female that wanted to play with any of my various D&D groups they would have happily been welcomed - being on the fringe of society makes you very accepting of anyone else that wants to belong. When you are considered the loser, you don’t kick people out.

Kids today don’t understand how different things were back then. My step daughter WANTED to be a nerd as it was considered “cool”. They can’t comprehend that someone would say mean things to you, let alone do horrible things to you or actually physically beat you up simply for playing a game or reading books.

On one hand it’s good that they don’t have to deal with actual things like that, but on the other hand they don’t really see how bad things can get for someone simply for not being “normal”

LOL My wife met her second husband in Everquest. She never had attention from men beyond me IRL, but some guy found out she was a RL female and I guess he liked her High Elf avatar.

I kinda was glad to see her gone, but the kids missed her when she moved away.

There was a study done that showed this to be true -think it was the norathian scrolls:

Female Ogres and trolls had no benefit but female High Elves or Wood Elves or Dark Elves? yeah. When our guild found out my wife was a RL female (she was level 10) a guildy brought her an full set of armor of Ro the next day. 20 levels later I was still in basic gear and none of my ivy etched…

What do people honestly feel about this kind of behavior?

That wasnt always the case. When I started playing quite some years ago the guild I joined at that time was like 95% male. And I left numerous guilds because of the somewhat tacky conversations that went on that I would classify as toilet humour, particularly gender based. Early wow was very much a boys club. If you look at the pictures of the early game developers, I think there was like one female to a room full of males. It must have been ‘fun’ working for Blizzard back then as a woman.

The game was designed primarily by males for males. I sincerely believe that and in those days off colour humour was the norm. So its hardly surprising that bits of that still exist in the game today and that a large proportion of the stuff being changed or removed is from vanilla, TBC and Wrath eras. Note, I said a large proportion. There are later things being altered but they are mostly changes to do with altering the names of things relative to persons who have left the company.

Interesting. I remember hearing about that a long time ago, but didn’t dive into it. Reading the ‘Men and Women’ part though, I definitely give it a mental ‘Yep’.

Yeah, It’s all about the visual aesthetic for men.

I played a Paladin back in the EQ days, that Ro armor was a total pain to assemble at low level. Though I didn’t envy Rangers the task of getting theirs. My father played one, and I kind of took it on myself to help outfit him, otherwise he probably wouldn’t have had his.

I always thought it was kind of cringey. If you’re going to help someone, help them because they’re a friend. Not because of their plumbing.

Men and women have different but equal types of bad behavior. I knew women who used WoW to prey on low hanging men. Mean usually get no attention, so if a woman gives it to them, most will bend over backwards to give a woman everything they have.

Of course that doesn’t include them men women actually want. Those men have options so they just use women and go through them the same way because they have options and can.

It’s not a male female thing in my opinion. It’s a good person / bad person kind of thing.

No, what makes things harder is you insisting that there is still some divide when there hasn’t been one in a few decades.

I get that you are young and you think you are fighting the good fight… but that fight dosn’t actually exist and hasn’t for a very long time.

Sounds like you’re just old and want to diminish other (much younger) women’s experience.

There is one thing that will always be in the game, you know that thing most Guardian Druids had witnessed such display happen towards the opposite faction’s corpse.

Why not, she is completely trying to diminish other people’s experience.
