We need to discuss Hunter Hero Talents

How is that a bad take? Did you play BFA?

Hunters dont use shadow\death magic at all they have mail rather than leather. I see rogues closer to them than Hunters who use mail\nature\beast mastery.

Technically Hunter’s had Black Arrow from 2008 to 2018 or so, and Wailing Arrow from 2020 to present

That is true, but i still dont think those couple of abilities are enough to make hunters more dark rangers than rogues.

Likely MM will get a rework for it to fit though, that is what im guessing. Wailing shot is the only thing it has going, outside of that the armor type, the magic type, the beasts. It doesnt match

I’m not gatekeeping anything lol, I was just giving you a hard time. The only thing to connect Dark Ranger to Rogue for me is seeing one cinematic where Sylvanas whips out the daggers against Saurfang. Outside of that, Sylvanas is definitely more Hunter/Archer and Dark Ranger is as well and has been since Warcraft 3.

I’m not saying Rogue with a short bow shouldn’t exist, I think it sounds pretty cool. I just made a post about how Hunters need more melee options. Good luck trying to convince people of that on these forums though. If the Rogue forum is anything like the Hunters, players are highly allergic to those kinds of changes to their class/talent options.

I think lots of people want a full blown mm rework for example so its hard to say that they are allergic to change. I think they just didn’t like your idea which is ok people have different tastes.

??? I didn’t say players are allergic to minor tweaks and changes to a spec, I said they don’t react well when you try to add or subtract whole weapon types from a class. This is true across all class forums and it has nothing to do with the concept I posted. I don’t mind anyone having their own opinions at all, so I’m not sure why I’m being attacked lol.

no they wont? hero talents are extra flavor on top of the existing trees. take mountain thane, for example. does fury warrior have anything to do with lightning / thunder? no, not really. just thunderclap. but the hero tree is built on top of existing themes etc.

there are plenty of dark rangers in the game that have pets

I’m guessing that dark ranger is going to be the MM/BM hero tree and will mostly revolve around buffing wailing arrow, re-adding black arrow (probably as an enhancement to serpent sting) and adding a non bad version of withering fire from the sylvanas cloak in shadowlands

Sure, but Hunters explicitly got Black Arrow only because the devs couldn’t figure out how to code Trap Launcher in time for WotLK release. It was just ranged Immolation Trap.

It was a random toss-in, much like Explosive Shot, for the spec the devs otherwise couldn’t figure out what to do with once they’d already given it 50 talent points’ worth of self-sustain and melee-defensive bloat propped up only by Target-Finder/Spotter flavors of raidbuffs and realized SV players might not want to be considered largely redundant after the first one taken per raid (thanks, again, to those raidbuffs).

Honestly, if there were any sort of a Deadeye spec on Rogue… Dark Ranger, a thus-far leather class that uses only physical and shadow magic, would probably better belong to it… if not for the fact it’d have to support / play off a second Rogue spec, too.

I really hope Arcane Shot and Cobra Shot get new animations, regardless. And a rename for Arcane Shot.

Without MP, Arcane Shot just feels really out of place.

  • Sure, it’s nice against Plate, but… why not then just make Cobra the baseline and give it at least 50% Nature damage instead of leaving it 100% Physical?

honestly every ranged ability that hunters have need new animations :confused: they’re very static and boring (to me personally) and feel like theyve hardly changed in 20 years. i’m not needing like super ff14 levels of acrobats or flash, but it would just look a bit nice if the hunter itself had an animation involved with each ability on top of a projectile vFX

im hoping sv gets dark ranger and packmaster. packmaster is a gimme and sylvanus and nathanos (both dark rangers) are known to utilize melee weapons. personally what i’m waiting for is the talents that are obviously geared towards ranged abilities (like the ranger talenton sv) and unsatisfying to choose but we must choose it anyway because it will probably also benefit kill shot

I’d be shocked if Survival didn’t get Sentinel. It seems as though any chance they have with these Hero Talents to take inspiration from Warcraft 3, they’re doing it… Mountain Thane, Keeper of the Grove, Slayer (which may be a slight adjustment in name, but is probably going to be a Blade Master in spirit), etc.

With Hunters, it’s hard for me to look at any of them and not see pure Warcraft 3 nostalgia written all over. Pack Leader would have been Beast Master if Beast Master wasn’t already the name of the spec, I’m sure. Dark Ranger was literally a WC3 Hero (a pure archer, btw), and Sentinel gives WC3 Warden, aka Maiev… but they had to rename it for the same reasons they renamed the Blade Master. The Warden in WC3 had abilities like Blink and Fan of Knives which are, of course, Mage and Rogue abilities.

Just like they said about the Blade Master in the hero talent article, “it’s just not a Blade Master without Wind Walk and Mirror Image”.

BM and MM are almost assuredly getting Dark Ranger as both specs have “Wailing Arrow” in their spec tree.
