We need a sword & board DPS spec

Their ability tuning doesn’t even really need anything special, just their attack power scaling.

Everything else they compete against in the melee DPS category is two hander or dual wielding. Just give them extra attack power to match that of other classes and tune their abilities as you normally would for a class.

Really bad DPS lol

Warrior is my favorite tank spec for this very reason.

you charge/leap around, shouting at the top of your lungs, and bash stuff in the face with your shield.

makes it fun in open world PVE too.

You’d have to give a sword and board dps spec a debuff making them take more damage to offset the defensive bonus of a shield.

I’m pretty sure getting slammed in the face with a shield would be offensive.

That is rude and reductive. Sword & Board have always been a staple in RPG’s, and I wish more warriors carried boards now because I might actually go back to playing mine.

RIP Warlock tanking for this reason, too.

Same with shaman tanks.

Dedicated off tank and buff/debuff specs would breath some life into raid/dungeon design for sure.

Shield only impacts direct melee hits (which there should be zero on a dps) and any physical aoe from the armor of the shield (again, very rare because making aoe bypass armor is an easier way to balance raid/dungeon boss damage).

The benefit would be minuscule and irrelevant. I don’t feel like shaman is any tankier despite mail being a higher base armor set than cloth and having a shield. Quite the opposite actually.

They couldn’t figure out a way to toggle protection out of a tank mode that was easy to toggle to in the fly and scrapped it.

It could just as easily be a sub spec of arms or fury, both have shield slam and shield block as part of the base kit.

Same. If i did dungeons id play it without question. The problem is i mostly either pvp or open world. So i need a self-healer.

My condolences.

It was honestly the most fun I’ve ever had on a Warrior, I enjoyed Shield Slam critting in PvP.

It probably didn’t do as much damage as a “true” DPS Warrior, like Fury or Arms, but it was fun as hell.

You were basically a DPS but with fun tank abilities, and I really enjoyed that in PvP.

It had potential.

Probably was removed because it could’ve been, hypothetically, too powerful.

Same argument they use to nerf Shaman constantly. Its a war crime.

  1. Not in PvP, having an extra 10-15% physical mitigation is massive
  2. Being able to tank some hits from dungeon mobs or bosses if you pull aggro, to how many bosses do physical damage AoEs, having high physical mitigation + being able to block on top of that is huge for damage mitigation

Those were good fights and days.

Reckon the main problem, as usual, would be how to balance in pvp. A dps spec that can block with the same shield they’re using to dps is bad news.

I seem to remember Shield spikes that can cause the shield to also do damage.

The overall damage they do is not anywhere close to what a dps should be doing, which would cause anothwr problem. They’ll be weak at everything, master of none.

Sheilds had been used as weapons in real life. The vikings sheilds was designed in a way to use the hrm of the sheild like a blunt weapon. Various sheilds is designed with weapon use in mind with the except of big sheilds such as tower sheilds.

Well they did in vanilla I would freaking love to be able to use a shield as Enhance tbh.

They should have changed Prot Pallys to where they used a 2h and a shield and named them Crusader Paladins like the ones in Diablo…
