We are ignoring Pyroblast (again)

If you are not in combustion it’s around a 3.3% gain to completely ignore Pyroblast below 30% in filler. Yes, you heard that right. The whole ignoring Pyroblast thing and mindlessly spamming Frostfire bolt is back. This is our spender we are talking about! Why is it this weak?

The first few days of Midnight max-level play have given us data and feedback needed to make our first tuning pass, with the goal of reducing outliers. We will continue to keep a close eye on class balance as both Heroic week and week 1 of the PvP season start, and players continue to gain gear and begin using tier sets.
Mage

  • Fire
  • Ignition now increases Flamestrike’s Ignite damage by 15% (was 50%).
  • Season 1 set 2-piece: Now increases Pyroblast and Flamestrike damage by 6% (was 8%).
  • Season 1 set 4-piece: Fire Blast cooldown reduction reduced to 0.3 seconds (was 0.5 seconds).
  • Fireball damage increased by 15%.
  • Frostfire Bolt damage increased by 15%.
  • Fire Blast damage increased by 25%.

It’s nice to have Frostfire be good. It’s nice to have strong execute. What isn’t nice is Pyroblast being a little underwhelming. Last time this was the case it was fixed with a half-measure. I warned (in a Wowhead article and on the forums) that the fix from before Midnight was cutting it too close. That was the issue before, and it has not stopped being the issue. If you don’t fix this now by buffing Pyroblast this problem will keep reappearing. I am, once again, requesting a Pyroblast buff.

These changes otherwise do a good job of shifting damage from the tier bonus into Single Target while also bringing Frostfire up to speed. The nerf to AOE is pretty severe, but maybe that was intentional.

I saw the frostfire bolt buff and did a double take. Fireball damage for sunfury was low sure, but FFbolt on frostfire for me anyway was a pretty large chunk of my DPS as it was.

Seeing even further buffs towards Fire blast is a bit disheartening. I’d prefer less focus on fire blast and more on other abilities, but we will see how it goes.

The Flamestrike nerf… eh. I dont think spreading less ignite is going to be as impactful in dungeons as some may believe.

It does seem like they are trying to further improve the single-target capability for Fire. Earlier in this expansion, I theorised that the way Fire is going, it will end up seeing some use for Raids and likely drop off from having use in M+. We should see more in the coming weeks.

It’s like they didn’t learn a single thing from years and years of scuffed Ice Lance tuning passes. Infurating.

I don’’t know enough about Fire Mage to make really specific suggestions, I just like feeling strong! I trust people like Preheat to know what’s best mathematically and gameplay wise. I can only discuss vibes.

XD this is sad… you fought for these changes just to make pyroblast weaker.

I personally love Frostfire Bolt so I don’t mind spamming it but it really feels like they don’t know what they’re doing with the tuning knobs this time around. The buffs and nerfs are all over the place and come off as completely haphazard. I really would like to see the data they’re basing these decisions on because much of it doesn’t seem to be grounded in reality. Not to mention that it appears to be predominantly geared towards smoothing out all the wrinkles and rough patches they inadvertently introduced with the Midnight reworks when what we really need is a complete rethinking of those.

Might as well, right? Seeing as the AoE is nonexistent, lol.

But…but….Fire was supposed to dominate on Tuesday lol.

Just here to high five the post don’t mind me.

Fire aoe its a mess, its a mix of ignite spread , hot streaks flamestrikes…but u never hard Cast FS

Flamestrike should be the aoe of fireball but It isnt its the aoe of pyro…

A change could be something like that ,

Add an aoe builder and use FS as streak proc

Or use FS as aoe builder then add as aoe finisher another spell , fire tornado , or vulcan or magma ball …or Phoenix flame (hugw Phoenix fall down)

Frost has Blizzard , orb , ice lance cleave

Arcane has pulse , orb, and missiles cleave

Fire has no orb , no cleave ( ignite?), and no aoe worth to Cast outside proc or cD ( meteor)

Why do you feel the need to reply to every post I make with lies and delusions. Seek help.

Yup, Fire’s AoE has never been in a good place. They’ve never gotten the balance between Ignite spreading and Flamestrike right. The pendulum keeps swinging back and forth between one and the other but never lands in a good spot. The entire thing needs to be reimagined but for starters I would like to see Phoenix Flames brought back as an AoE ability to bridge the gaps between Meteor and Combustion.

I know you don’t post on the forums much, Preheat, but as a veteran forum goer let me give you some helpful advice: use the ignore function. There is an entire subculture of trolls permeating the community that only engage with others to get a rise out of them. Actually, come to think of it it’s not much different than the YouTube comment section, just more visible.

Second time you reposted stuff I already said. Someone has a big ego lol I use you because you are part to blame mr “fire has gotten most of their wishlist”… so tell me how is that lying? And this is the first time I’ve been vocal about fire mage since we’re going backwards instead of going forward with better changes over the years…

Hey you’re not even talking to me and I’m blocking you. You just seem like a useless troll?

Why would I be talking to you? I am far from trolling and pointing out the obvious…

Having switched to Enhance the Shaman forums are SO comparatively boring lol. But to your point, Ignite has always been such a nightmare to tune - that’s why I was so taken aback by the Lit Fuse / Living Bomb double down on passive cleave in TWW (which we all knew was going to be stripped because it made zero sense). I think they need to just change Fire’s mastery to a % chance to fire a “Greater Pyroblast/Greater Flamestrike” spender and make ignite spread a complete talent decision

i’m all for deleting ignite and turning the mastery into bonus damage, since that’s mostly what ignite is already

but i suppose they want to keep the gimmick so the boomers won’t complain about “pruning”

I agree, I rather not have dots. It could be a damage taken increase debuff instead and more fitting for a bursty spec like fire mage is.
