I’m not saying that Blizzard is losing money on your sub I’m saying that Blizzard isn’t making a fortune off of it either.
As a business the previous poster wasn’t wrong in saying that Blizzard will probably be lucky to even get back the development costs of having to get Vanilla to work on modern servers, video cards, and other hardware.
So in other words…my 15$ a month is making them a profit.
The poster I originally responded to said Classic was zero profit. I only play Classic, and as such, if it did not exist, that would be less sub money. Many of the people I play with feel the same way.
So arguing that Blizzard isn’t making money on Classic is just plain false.

You are yet another person asking for a “fresh” start with a 58 boost. That defeats the whole point. If you want to keep your work, then there’s no need for a boost. If you want a boost, then just keep your work. I pointed out this glaring contradiction in a different thread, a well detailed post… and they deleted it (herp derp mods). Either way, they’re both pointless. If you want to start over, then just delete your own work. If you want a boost, then just level up now.
People have a strange obsession with fresh realms. It might be a medical condition. It seems to have started with private servers, and it needs to go away. We’re done losing our work because of realm shutdowns. This time, our work is here to stay. Many of us have played 1-60 again and again and again because private servers never have a future. When they go up in smoke, all our work is lost when we’re forced to go to the next one. No more. This time, we’re keeping our work, and original characters, straight on through all the content.
[This post is being unnecessarily censored by Blizzard until July 2nd.]
Your logic is flawed because you assume I only want this change for myself only and what it can do for me.
This change is for the people who didn’t want vanilla but want tbc as well as maybe new comers to the wow classic scene. It allows for a clean slate for these people to come in and stay without automatically being forced to level in content they have no desire for.
Even if they allowed for the boosts alongside the transfers I’d be okay with it. And make the boosts limited if you want idc. I believe it will allow for a ton of new people to come in and enjoy the game.
I understand 90% of classic players don’t understand what it means to have an opinion that benefits someone else and not so much yourself, but it is possible to hold such opinions.
Ops idea is actually the worst of all available ideas. It would completely crush Alliance for one. Horde will keep their characters and Alliance without the barrier of leveling can just hop to horde and roll an insta shaman, so there becomes very little incentive to keep your character for ally.
It would completely wreck many servers as everyone hopes around. Class balance will be tilted towards whatever the most meta class is as people jump from their current classes .
But I guess if your aim is a world entirely made up of blood elf paladins and horde Shamans then yea… great idea.
I don’t think you read what I proposed my friend. I said have two separate sets of realms. One that’s fresh with boosts and one thats just a transfer from your old characters
Subscriptions doubled when Classic came out, and you can bet a reasonable percentage of that will also translate into shadowlands sales when it releases. If you think they’re not profiting from Classic you’re crazy…
How on earth would this deter people away from keeping their same characters? Why would you reroll to a level 58 with starter gear when you probably already have nax gear at that point with a ton of gold on your main.
If you’ve been paying attention at all, you’ve seen that people will min-max everything to varying degrees. At the low end some people (most of whom wont have naxx gear or a ton of gold) will just reroll to one of the classes they’e been told is the “strongest” or at the least will just decide to try out a new class and abandon their old one, since they can start on a new server where no one has gold and everyone is exactly the same, but you also don’t have to do all that pesky leveling. Alliance shamans and Horde paladins will be out of control…
And at the other end, you’ll have groups rolling their absolute perfect raid comps on day one.
There is literally no reason to reroll the opposite faction if you are already alliance with a set guild, stash of money, mounts, gear, etc.
No one, and let me repeat, no one would reroll on a random server with a fresh start, if they are already minmaxed to the teeth with collectibles like ZG mounts and multiple tens of thousands of gold, just so they can play a horde toon in tbc.
These min maxers would be better off just leveling a horde toon right now and transferring all their gold over right now.
In vanilla they would occasionally release fresh start servers. Every time they did, you’d have a bunch of people who would leave their current servers and all their stuff behind to go start over on the new servers chasing server firsts or a fresh start or whatever. And it definitely led to attrition in the original communities over time, which is bad for those servers and the game as a whole.
This would be much worse as class balance would also be affected because you’re giving people basically max level characters.
This did not happen at all knock it off dude lol. A majority of those new servers were ghost towns. The original servers were always the ones with the most people.
Yeah sure maybe some people rerolled but what you are saying is just nonsense you made up in your head. Knock it off
Ok dude. I was there and it definitely was a thing. Most of the new servers had queues for the first several weeks even. I’m guessing you didnt play back then so I dont know what to tell you really.
Yes I was there dude. And especially back then when people leveled as slow as they did, no one of any significance went to these realms. Did some random level 20s or 30s do it just cuz? Sure why not. Maybe that’s the boat you were in, a random ‘leveling’ guild that got decimated by these new servers LOL
