Yup, should have made him a warden. As for night elves being matriarchal, well sorry but down with the matriarchal or patriarchal societies!
I am pretty glad the only other matriarchal society depicted are the blood trolls, and they are pretty horrible.
These are complaints on Twitter and I don’t know the correct opinion is so I will reserve judgement.
You forgot the Hyldnir. We helped them put down a slave rebellion of male Vrykul because Blizzard are terrible writers.
I don’t really remember them much. But then again, I avoided Storm Peaks like the plague back in Wrath.
The Night Elves have never been truly matriarchal in the sense that females have an inherent higher social status than males.
There may have been gender preferences in regards the Cenarian Circle and the Sisters of Elune but the two groups are seen as equals in shaping Night Elf culture and policy.
You have a better argument for matriarchy with the Maruk Centaur where females are clearly valued more than males. But even that is not clsoe to being a strong Amazon level of matriarchy.

To add on, with how much Arko’narin gushes over Trey, I highly doubt she only considered him a friend.
