Wasting Rastakhan

I’m still convinced the name was part of the reason for it.

Possibly. I mean, we have (are stuck with) Baine Bloodhoof and lots of people still miss Cairne.

Wow, weird to see this thread again lol

Now that the dust has settled and we are truly out of the zandalar narrative, I don’t feel my opinion has changed. They wasted a fun character like rastakhan and did nothing with it. He never showed in shadowlands, and Talanji’s story went nowhere, banished to afk on the throne.

I think blizz really flopped on killing him with how this all played out, I simply can’t appreciate the lack of payout. Really is a shame.

Talanji’s story plays out in the pre-SL book (aka the usual story that should be ingame but isn’t stick). She is in a better place than at the end of BFA. She and the Horde are on better terms and her relationship with Bwonsamdi is more of a partnership than the mess Rastakhan left them in.
Not showing up in SL was probably a good thing. If they were not the big important lore person that is dead for each zone (i.e. Uthar, Vashj/Draka, Kael, Ysera) they were either: npc cameos, Tiny Blue Ball Arthas, or Garrosh who yeeted himself out of the lore.

Thats true, been a while since i read the book but i do remember her having friction about peace with the alliance since they killed her father and torched her lands.
But I would still much rather have not had rastakhan die. Blizzard hasn’t utilized the story point that zandalar is in an equal alliance with the horde. His death didn’t push the story forward, in fact the zandalari story fell off a cliff directly following his death so that it could become an old god expansion lol.
It leaves this feeling that rastakhan was dumb so he died, now the zandalari are in better hands but we aren’t going to show you, just take our word for it!

Honestly he needed to die. His death was just in the wrong spot, but looking at the overarching story of Telanji it also makes sense to happen here. He was the embodiment of holding on tradition and refusing change. Telanji represented embracing moving forward and accepting change if it works. He was already dieing since Rezan was dead. The loa is what kept him going for so long. He cut a deal with Bwonsamdi to extend his life a little longer so he could secure the future of the kingdom. Which Bwonsamdi did by making sure Talanji fully joined the Horde. His death marked the end of an era of stagnation. The Zandalari saw a new Queen, a new Council, a new approach to troll/non-troll relations, a new permanent alliance with a world power, a new head loa, a new loa of kings (voljin in shadowlans).
Also yeah the Zandalari had no plot relevance after BoD. The whole reason the horde wanted them to join was for their naval might which could rival Kul Tiras. It was sunk. The Alliance had won the naval theater. In the Rise of Aszhara cinematic we see 4 horde (2 zandalari 2 forsaken) ships fleeing about 20 alliance ships. That was meant to represent this huge power difference. The rest of the war was going to take place on Kalimdor.
The same could be said for alliance in 8.0 as Uldaer had nothing to do with them. 8.0 is strong horde. 8.1 is strong alliance. 8.2-8.3 is the true baddy arc.

Azshara was nothing short of amazing. That is how you write a villain. She’s charismatic, charming, ruthless and powerful. But above all, she was relatable and you can see how she got to that point.

What I did not expect to see was a shred of her morality poking through all that pride and arrogance. She did care for her people, even if it was only because they were her’s. But she did care.

She embraced what it meant to be QUEEN.

Honestly agree with all of this. I can be content with rasta dying, just not how blizz did it. Thats what stings.

Honestly, he wasn’t “build up” so much as made a foolish looking king in MoP:

If anything, I expected he would have ended up the penultima boss to a Zul raid.

Thread is literally 4 years old.

You guys really don’t want to talk about anything other than BfA, Cata and WC3 do ya?

It’s the same with Daddy D. He does really care for Renethal, the first person he ever sired. There is a reason why Mal’ganis told the other Dreadlords not to harm Renethal physically. As such an act would upset the master. As for tossing him and the Curator into the maw? Clearly a parent grounding their children or making them stay with a family member they hate. In this case Uncle Z. Hell, Remornia was only seeking to tire him out at the finale of Revendreths leveling campaign.

hehe, Daddy D

Yeah Daddy does care. He did the things but he believed were for the greater good. Not evil reasons (at least not yet). He has had many chances to kill Renethal and instead either banishes him or uses it as a teachable moment as he sends anima to the Maw. He, like Azshara, not getting killed was a good thing. I will be happy to see them back later doing their thing.

Oh gosh Mo, let them be, let them have their nostalgic moment of discussion!
:dracthyr_hehe_animated:
It really cracks me up when I see you pocked your face to point out the years old this or that was!
I do agree, I am of the very few who would want to discuss the new stuff (if the whole information was available about the new bits of lore and story too as unpopular as some are)
:upside_down_face:
However its really nice to be reminded of the old stories and lore written… it help put in perspective certain things that have pop out in DF recently!
Also great for personal RPG! IMO

Wait we didn’t go from BFA to DF? Something happened in between? Did I lose 2 years of my life? I dreamed I was in the land of death…was that actually real? Was I trapped in N’zoth’s mindwarp?

STAAP it! Aw, come on, the world building and the new lore was not THAT bad! I can’t defend the story in it thought… But I did love the concept of it for what it was.

Still farming rep for my Lock on SL, for transmogs and personal RPG!

I treat SL like I treat WoD. Great set up and potential. I legitimately liked the concept of the zones, the dungeons and the first raid. Daddy D was a great villain I am glad is out there scheming still. Just after .0 for each of these Xpacks it just went downhill.

I would not mind it if it truly was just a nostalgic discussion but the way these forums talk about lore as if it physically hurt them so why keep bringing it up?
