Was Legion that much better?

No, it wasn’t and people who have fond memories of Legion fall into 1 of 3 categories or a combination of the 3:

  1. Completely solo player, did World Quests and LFR and worked on Class Halls the whole expansion
  2. Rose tinted goggles
  3. A complete moron

Legion had a cool setting and followed narrative points which were 1-Dimensional, but ironically a 1-Dimensional story works very well for Warcraft because no body cares about nuance in an MMO, we just want to see cool things happen. Which Legion had plenty of.

The gameplay was the absolute worst in the history of WoW. The worst gearing, the worst systems, the worst stat weights, and the worst PVP.

Legion was one of the most popular expansions. The raiding was fantastic, the story was amazing, and the systems, overall, weren’t bad. A lottt of people came back because of it. And a lot of them left because of bfa.

Legion was amazing. But then they kept reiterating game systems.

Also the writing took a huge nose dive after legion. You basically went from fighting hordes of DEMONS to uh… flying on your dragon saving mole people?

Nothing touches Legion and it’s not even close.
Never forget the magic feeling when you loot a Legendary. Or the comfort of Tru-Shot Hunting Lodge. The beauty of Suramar and the Nighthold. The sexiness of Valtrois and Thalyssra. Everything worked.

I didn’t play during Legion becase Wod was so bad I skipped all of Legion and nearly all of BFA.

Legion IMO has the exact same problem many wow expansions have and its something FFXIV figured out not to do. Systems that cannot continue into the next expansion. Every single one of these systems ends up sucking in the end. Borrowed power of Legion/BFA/SL. Garrison of WOD. Garden/village/scenarios from MoP. Class Halls of Legion. Torghast of SL.

They spend silly amounts of resources on these “NEW” systems that last 2 years if they are lucky and then never get touched again. They never look long term.

Probably had less players than WoD. And nah the systems were the worst version of anything we have ever had.

I’ll remember Legion for the ruination of the made class, especially Arcane.

Spaceships and planets helped it be bad.

“Wrathbabies” used to be a pejorative expression for new players. Now people are paying a sub fee to play wrath again. The only thing we definitely know we like is nostalgia. Nostalgia is the best because it’s our mind tricking itself into something that isn’t reality but feels real.

I miss Legion.

Entirely intentional. It’s called parasitic development. They destroy what went before to make the previous expansion to be a husk of its former self, so people will eagerly play the new content when it arrives.

It wasn’t, really. Not until the later patches when everything became more accessible.

I quit Legion before the first patch because of just how annoying it was to play and only came back way later. AP grinding was a terrible inclusion to the game and set the game on a dark path that took 6 years to fix.

About the only thing Legion did right was gear scaling in PVP.

I mean maybe it could be something done as we must think of what it means to be trapped on the final stage of an expansion. So for tbc, wrath, and vanilla, maybe to a lesser extent cata that means doing some nice easy raids with one hard-ish raid at the end. Some changes could be made to tbc to make the grind less hard, for example adding a reusable potion.

But for legion the endgame might be something like your artifact is maxxed out artifact power, and I guess given the catch up added to wrath they might just add increasing it and the real question would be ‘is this an expansion i would be ok with being stuck on’?

I quit Legion in the first month (I had the distinct feeling that I was going to hit a gear wall with no way forward) and honestly the only thing I regret is not sticking around to get the original Werebear forms…I only have the Felbear form.

I loved much of legion. It was so easy to level an alt and start playing right away. WQ felt new and exciting. Pvp templates meant i could immediately start playing after hiting level cap.

The artifact grind i did not like, and each class couldn’t change spec bc of the artifact power bs

The xmogs with the all the green and purple glowy things were great and the cinematic where illidan killed the light blob was my all time favorite.

Lol, I mean… it’s top 3 in most people’s eyes, that’s for good reason.

that’s cause it was, for the most part.

back in legion i had complaints, but looking back it was a pretty darn fun expansion.
like, i did’nt like how some classes felt shafted by their artifact weapon being lame, or how their spec was just one-thing… the broken isles themselves felt really excuse-y to me (we need to find the pillars of creation which just so happen to all be there, and there just so happens to be a new tauren-cousin race, and there just so happen to be a secret group of magic-addicted night-elves, etc).

but, the legion felt like an actual threat. the classes that were fun, were REALLY fun, and a lot of folks were playing, so i made lots of friends, the catch-up mechanic felt good, there was’nt some ‘you gotta go here and grind-out a currency for it’ like bfa/sl had (well, atleast till argus), and they pumped out new content all the dang time in that expansion…

legion was better then everything that’s come after it. hands-down. i’m not gonna say it was the best expansion, but to me, it was.

That’s because it was :man_shrugging:

Relative to BFA, SL, and even the current expac it was very well-polished. It’s like the haley’s comet of the modern WoW era

Still felt like WoW too, if we’re talking the story and lore. Immersive and featured everyone’s favorite longtime characters such as Illidan

if you go by these forums it should be the worst exp ever made since ap grind was it’s worst.

it also had rng legendaries added on top of it.

Every expansion comes with its pet issues that people cling on to for basically the whole time.

For Legion, it was how off-spec unfriendly the AP / Artifact grind was, since AP applied to your weapon and not your character, in addition to how ridiculously RNG-dependent Legendaries were for how core they were to most specs’ performance and in some cases fluidity.

Said issues are always going to feel louder while they’re current. It’s sometimes a bit tough to compare them afterward since you’re not currently feeling the effects of the old issue.

if you go by these forums, then every expansion is the worst lol

Man, people like the tacky Marvel’s Thor theme park that was the warrior order hall? Warrior is the only class that didn’t really get to be the leader of their order.

You’re just Odyn’s pal. Worst orderhall.
