Was I in the wrong to DE?

As I said earlier it’s your loot you can do as you please. But I also believe you knew full well what you were doing would piss a bunch of people off.

Had other players been offering gear they didn’t need to the rest of the raid?

If so, had other players offered up gear that you might have needed and you rolled on it (regardless of if you won the roll or not)?

can we get some clarity on this?

did you win the item, or was it given to you?

You aren’t in the wrong. It was given to you and that means it was yours to do with as you please. However telling them you DE’d it was just taunting them. Next time, don’t say anything

You can get purples now from world quests if you wanna level enchanting.

If you kept the raid piece for mog purposes I’d understand. Gears tricky to come by lately so I would just use world quest rewards.

yes and no… technically, its your loot, you can choose its fate. Morally, its better to help out. You do have the right to DE whatever loot you want, just maybe next time equip it and play dumb and DE it after the raid.

Yes, it was you.

If no one said they needed it, then fine. But, a lot of people could have used the upgrade.

For me, it falls into the Need Before Greed category. The people you grouped with needed it. You didn’t need to DE it.

I read all the chatter above on, “It’s your loot do whatever you want with it.” and I am normally in that boat as well. However, this is a different scenario. People said they needed it as an upgrade. Then you made an announcement you were going to DE it, and did so. That was kind of douchey.

The fact that you’re even asking this says a lot about you.

That was awful.

Very selfish to do this.

It’s extremely rude of you. That one point couldn’t been achieved by a daily or at the darkmoon faire.

If this was your guild raid group, which from what you said it wasn’t, then there’s a problem.

But it’s a pug, randoms you have no reason cater to them, if you want it for the mats, your free to do so.

Yes, changing leveling is WAY less value than getting a useful piece of gear.

It’s not hard to see though, you have on 168 feet, what if the drop was 213 feet, with a socket, that was best in slot for you and THEY DE’d it for only 600g value? The piece is probably worth 100,000g to you.

I’ve never understood DE upgrades for other people. Or at least, I don’t get doing it without giving another option. What do you get? 1? maybe 2? eternal crystals?

Why not offer it to them at the price of 2 eternal crystals? Most people I know would pay it (it’s only 1k) for a ilvl 200 item. You can’t buy them for remotely that price on the AH.

If you offered that and they refused and then kicked you I’d understand getting cranky. Not even offering that as an option I don’t understand. Granted I’ve never seen it given but that confuses me.

(That said, I leveled enchanting in an hour by buying the crystals so maybe my understand of in game gold is off due to my ability to make gold. Maybe people wouldn’t be happy with that as an option? I’d certain be happy with it though).

edit: If it was a guild run, I would 100% support not only kicking you from raid but /gkick. As a pug… yeah, I’d probably be ok with kicking you. As would most of my guildies. If it was an upgrade for a guildie I’d happily reimburse you for any one of them to have an upgrade and if you DE it instead… bye bye.

Some straight up psychopaths in this thread … yeesh.

Your loot your choice.

On that note what were the loot rules that were agreed on prior?

All he had to do was equip it first. Wouldn’t be able to trade anyway.

It’s not toxicity, but you didn’t do anything wrong, per se.

It was your drop to do with as you wish, but at the same time the group leader is well within his/her rights to remove someone that wasn’t interested in benefitting the group as a whole.

"Hey, guys. I know loot is really rare and enchanting materials are really cheap and easy to acquire, but even though a few people need this piece of loot and I don’t I’m gonna tell you all I’m disenchanting what is an upgrade for all of you and then do it right in front of you to really show you how little I think of all of you. Oh, and when you kick me for doing it, Y’ALL ARE THE TOXIC ONES. "

This seems to be a foreign concept to a lot of the wrath babies and later. Before then you would get lynched for not following loot etiquette. Sure trolls and ninjas existed but the me, me, me attitude was far less common.
That being said if it was loot drop and he didnt roll for it then it is technically he is and he did not do anything against play rules. Hes just selfish, a troll or both. I try not to give them an ounce of my energy and make them insignificant by helping as many as possible as much as possible.
