I mean, in a battle ground you will have at least one healer hopefully. Plus you will have several ways to break CC if you really need to. Warriors have 2 ways to break fear, and a PVP trinket (along with other random items which can break CC). And with engineering they’re opened up to another stun and several CC options.
Couldn’t figure this link out :x
Edit: ok I got it
For sure warrior gear blows tier 1 warlock gear out of the water.
Still looking for someone to comment against how a tier 1 warlock does against a tier 1 warrior. Do they even have a chance? Wouldn’t they get 2 shot with 2 crits? (Not uncommon for a warrior)
Warriors and melee in general are terribad at dueling.
Think about how much winning duels or 1v1 in WPvP matters to you.
Warrior is a gear collecting class and a instance class. They are just bad at world PvP. I know as I played one.
Warlock is cool but it will be less than exciting. Unless you find being cheesy and just standing there exciting.
I personally would rather lose duels and have more mobility and a better time with all other aspects of the game.
Warlock is starting to look like the easy mode class and not in a good way.
They have no chance unless you blow recklessness if you’re equally geared.
Interesting, so you think a warrior has no chance?
Also what interests me the most PvP-wise is Arathi basin - Wsg and when AV is launched is Arathi Basin - AV - WSG.
Starting to look pretty good for warlock.
Warrior:
-Ridiculously painful to level
-Always expected to tank dungeons and 20mans all the time
-Have to compete with 9+ other melee DPS for gear
-Tons and tons of consumables to grind for every raid
Warlock
-Super ez leveling
-Broken OP in PVP
-Very few warlocks, you will ALWAYS be wanted in raids
-Very few warlocks, so very little competition for tier gear
choice is clear m8
If I understand correctly, in 1v1 the warlock will win basically every time given similar skill level of the players. In a battleground scenario there are too many different circumstances to go by. A warrior with a healer is a wrecking ball of course. I suppose if I was playing solo more than with a group I would go with warlock. If I will be in a group most of the time, perhaps I’d go warrior. There is no wrong answer of course, because if you are a good player you will be successful regardless of class. I will say that it’s probably not the best idea to solely base your choice on tier 1 gear.
This was a really big point that stood out to me too, gearing up fast is important as you will have a vantage if you have purples first. So when there is less warlocks i’ll gear up faster, thanks for bringing that up.
I agree - however there will be no go-backs to try this launch experience again. Seems trivial that i’m basing this a lot around tier 1 itemization but it will play a big part of how the beginning of wow classic plays overall. This is how i’m seeing it at least.
My main will be a warrior tank at 60.
… but it will be the 2nd toon I level. I plan to get something to 60 fairly quickly (relatively speaking. It’s Classic after all) … so I can earn gold a bit easier and have something to fund the warrior. Engineering is expensive.
One thing that is a drawback to me is warriors feel a little slow pace sometimes. I’m by no means the best but i’m pretty damn good at stance dancing, optimizing what to use and when. Still I spend a lot of time waiting on the next CD. When your in a fight and your mortal strike and whirlwind are on CD that’s a major blow to your DPS.
Playing a warlock on the AV beta test I felt optimized always, no waiting on CD’s just a constant flow of choices of what to roll into my rotation based on the situation.
Warrior will take some commitment even if you don’t main tank.
You still need off tank gear in case you are called upon. You will need to be dedicated to keep your raid spot against all the other melee.
So you will need a guild you are in good with.
You will also need a good pre-made group to roll with in BGs too or a healer pal at least.
To this point I do have a full time job now, and the benefits of having less competition for gear and the non-requirement of pocket healer buddy will make it easier to succeed as a full time part timer.
Another point for warlock.
Can anyone share their experience being fully purple in the PvP scene as warlock during molten core content phase? This was one of the most alluring factors I had for a warrior was the juicy gear and impact it had on the pvp scene during this phase.
Depends, are you a cool guy/girl?
Warlock is decent, but add on gear and the right player at the controls and they’re a monster.
you’ll hit 60. there will be 10000 warlocks and 100000 rogues and 1000000 hunters. there will be like 3 warriors.
warrior is best early on.
Uh… debatable. Warrior is the most popular class (or among the top three) on servers right now. Warlocks aren’t that popular, especially on Alliance.
Outstanding comments and input from everyone and I really appreciate that. Pretty sure I’ll go warlock now vs my initial direction of warrior.
AV being a big part of what classic means to me, I don’t think I could really enjoy it as much as a melee.

a warrior will be 500% stronger than a warlocks potential could be.
Yes but your Warlock will be 500% smarter than a warriors potential could be.
Serious note, the dps spread early on isn’t even close 500% apart. You’re probably exaggerating for arguments sake, but I couldn’t help myself.
For PvE, Warrior is probably more fun. Warlocks basically just spam Shadowbolt. Warriors have something of a “rotation”, but not more complicated than Warlock.
For PvP do you have friends waiting in the background to heal you while you quest and BG? If yes, Warrior. If you’re expecting a lot of solo PvP, Warlock hands down.
If you’re rolling PvE server and don’t won’t be flagging yourself for PvP, either is a good pick. They’re both good in BGs. Warlock wins out slightly if you like to duel.
PvP server: Have friends with heals? Warrior. No friends or no friends with heals? Warlock.
In my personal opinion, I think you have it backwards. From the talent trees we’ve seen and knowing what patch they are using as a starting point, there have already been several warrior nerfs from their release state while many classes were overhauled and improved.
Warrior will still be strong, but they will not shine as much till later gearing when compared to say Mages and Warlocks.
With gear and a healer, warriors are monsters. They’ll also out-DPS warlocks forever.
