Warrior or Paladin?

Which is better right now?

Tanking: Warrior
DPS: Paladin

Protection Warrior has a pretty significant advantage over Protection Paladin in terms of tanking both Mythic+ and raids right now. With the planned nerf to Protection Warrior DPS in Patch 8.2 and the upcoming essence system, the two tank specs will probably wind up much closer in value. There is a real sneaky possibility that Paladin is the FotM tank in 8.2.

For DPS specs, Fury is slightly more popular than Ret, and the two specs are extremely competitive in terms of raid DPS. In Mythic+, Ret brings more unique utility and is thus a slightly better option. Wisdom and Kings aren’t huge buffs, but they can’t be cheaply replicated with an Attack Power scroll.

Both classes are reasonably competitive in DPS and tanking roles, and while I personally prefer Warrior because it’s more fast-paced and I have ~10 times more experience playing it, you can’t go wrong either way. Unless you go Arms.

Depends on what you’re doing.

Unless you’re handling magic damage (beyond one big hit of it), need utility outside rally/shout/safeguard, or raid healing.

Multiple arms warriors got in the Hall of Fame and timed 20 keys. If someone wants to play it, they can play it. And it’s not “wrong”.

Wow… what an extremely detailed and thought out helpful response!

Turns out the answer is pretty dependent on the details of the question, and the question was stupidly broad.

Tell you what, give a fully detailed answer for all three specs, for both classes, in every aspect of the game. I’ll fact check.

Or you could instead of giving a half hearted “depends” answer that I see way too much on these forums, provided you’re the previous poster on a different character. In either case, if somebody asks a question, despite how generalized it is, it is counterproductive to answer with a “it depends.” At that point why bother saying anything at all? lol

Perfect for an extremely detailed and thought out question.

To propagate further discussion, to have them give more specifications to their question.

Being an OP does not make you incapable of speaking for yourself or specifying.

OP is mia, but incase;

TV hits much (2x?) harder than MS, so if you’re after a big number machine go ret.

Actually, it’s funny. The OP asked the question in multiple forums with the same format. And you know what I did to one of those posts? I responded, in the same fashion TheDiesel did, but with more sarcasm and snark.

And you know what happened? Be it a gift from God, a miracle, or a fluke, the poster responded to me, gave specifications for their question, and I then answered fully.

If you have to guess as to someone’s intentions or parameters for their question, they asked it poorly.

I play both so in my opinion paladin BUT i can not stand how sluggesh they feel.if you just want to actually do stuff go paladin.if you wanna have fun fury warrior.

I’ve had this feeling for weeks. That why I’ve been getting one geared up. Not that I’m a FOTM player, but if I plan to be CE next tier, better cover the bases. Either way, the prot nerf won’t be as bad as most believe and I think it’ll be more due to the seasonal going from aoe zerg to something more control based.

Paladin has also been a sleepy favorite all expansion too. They barely touched it outside the uncapped damage stack talent. They aren’t bad in any content atm, but are worse than a couple by some small margin. Also gearing bear just in case meat shield is the way to go.

On the one hand, I think the Prot nerf will be worse than some of the community expects. It’s currently estimated to be a ~10% overall DPS reduction, which will keep Warriors around #1 in most raid scenarios, but it’s a significant reduction to their burst DPS in Mythic+. Since the Season 3-specific affix has been hinted at being more ST-oriented, I expect the layers of direct and indirect nerfing to have a considerable negative effect on Warriors in the Mythic+ meta.

That being said, the new essence system is extraordinarily favorable to Warrior (and Paladin) - at least as long as Vision of Perfection remains the same. If so, I could see the nerfs and Vision of Protection largely canceling each other out and Warrior remaining really competitive in both raid damage and Mythic+ representation.

Avatar damage is only half the reason why they’re good in m+. Spell reflect is amazing. and trivializes many bosses.

They will still be the best tank for dugneons like FH/WCM/UR as long as spell reflect and their overall mitigation doesn’t get touched

I don’t have any disagreements about what you said, just wanted to point out that non meta isn’t a bad thing. That should only effect bleeding edge players, I’m not one and most people aren’t.

From a semi casual key runner perspective, as long as I can climb to 15ish range with minimal shortcomings, I’d call it fine. As long as it’s only damage and not mitigation I’ll be fine.

Spell reflect gets more busted the higher the key gets. Does a bazillion damage on tyrannical bosses on high keys
