Warlock or mage? Which do you find more fun and why?

Mages are just for people who aren’t good enough to play a Warlock.

Yaz, he knows

The Warlock soareth whither feareth the Mage to tread.

If you told me I had to play ranged DPS and only ranged DPS…I’d pick lock no questions asked.

And THAT, my friends, is EPIC!

My main is a mage and this is my alt. The answer for me is;

Whenever I’m on my mage, I’m wishing I could summon other players.
Whenever I’m on my lock, i’m wishing I could teleport around the world much easier.

So they are both fun and flavor wise, locks get the better sets. They both have utility but IMO lock utility is better - no other class brings healing stones or portals where as mages mostly bring AI (which is good) and lust which a few other classes can bring as well (lust not AI).

Mage is more fun to me – CC, blink, portals, distinct ‘geeky’ magic schools.

Warlocks is LOTS of fun (I’ve farmed “green fire” on 4 of them, yes stupid) but generally speaking they aren’t as mobile and I feel a bit ‘restricted’ when it comes to just open worlding…

Mage is more fun. Squishier so it gives you a little challenge at times. Simpler rotation. Fun spells and good utility

Warlocks, their magic is cooler and their lore is way better, they’re just better mages tbh

I’ve always found warlocks to be a lot cooler than mages. But we’ve never explored more of the arcane side of the universe beyond the titans. Whereas we get to learn so much about the demons and the Legion.

Warlocks are so very fun to play, the 3 specs do feel completely different to play.

Warlocks are a lot more hardy with their self heals. You tend to jump around a lot out in the world levelling as a mage because a lot of your spells require you to stand still and that can be hard when you are getting thumped on. I just find working with a warlock a lot easier.

Mages have better mobility, practically no DoTs and no pets. All positives.

Neither. Should be Hunter. We have Beast Pets. Beast Pets alone has its own gameplay/ personal story starting with searching and finding to tame them.

And we have one of the most OP ability… Feign Death.

I consider the huge massive missile of green fire super flashy, don’t u?

Flashy and satisfying to cast.

I’ve always played warlock as affliction, mage as frost for a real long time then went to fire for something different (I think for Legion and onward not right now though I benched my mages). Both are fun and both have their benefits. While I play affliction better for the numbers game I like mage a bit more. In the long run I get bored with affliction. As a squishy mage staying alive is sometimes a whole lot of fun and excitement you just cannot get with affliction.

Mages are faster. Warlocks are bulky. Too bad speed is always meta. Warlocks bulkiness got nerfed and isn’t worth using unless you talent for speed which is more healing for locks! Without the damage to be worth using over mages in most cases.

To me, Havoc is what makes destro feel weird. It’s an interesting element, but that doesn’t make it neccessarily ‘fun’. Having said that, it’s the only warlock spec I’ve ever liked, even though I realize affliction often is the better performer.

I vote warlock, as I’ve simply never been able to get a mage to max level w/o losing interest.

Mage may be fun, but they seem very plain to me. Basic mage. A warlock seems like a mage that decided to learn more than the basics. I love DOTs too.

Depends how you play it.

My mage is a Highborne Mage, and it feels great as Elven magic, especially ancient like the Highborne, is awesome.

OT:

Fantasy wise without getting too much into RP, Warlocks can fit everywhere magic related, more than mages, because they use any type of magic they can get to get stronger, not only demonic one, as much as I know.

Though a Mage can also fit as they’d want to learn from things and seemingly Fel magic can be used for things without being a Warlock (read Druids in Valsharah using Fel to empower something life related, weird as H, but happened).

Fantasy wise, while I like the demon commanding stuff, I don’t like the soul sucking thing and needing to soul rip people to cast spells. You go around wondering why you’re even allowed to be there, and I’m kinda fed up with edginess in the game, as it is overloaded with it. (Says the Spriest Main).

Rotation wise, can’t say much, they have their own fun. I don’t like fire too much because it only feels good in Combustion, and when in Combustion it feels like the old Shadow Priest trying to hit as much as possible before Insanity was drained and VF ended. Not much of a fan of it.

Arcane is beautiful, great aesthetics, great fantasy behind with controlling the laws of reality or something like that.

Warlocks, well… Have an easier time soloing stuff, but are kinda messy with all their sacrificial stuff that again, I’m not so eager about it. Haven’t played Demo in a while, Destro is fun and Affliction is a hell no for me.

But hey, Mages have portals.
