Regardless performance and numbers. Which do you find more fun (rotation, aesthetics, lore ) and why?
Warlocks are just better mages.
… or maybe warlocks are just wannabe mages
I love both, but Warlocks have a far easier time soloing things thus slightly more fun.
Difficult one to answer for me. I love the concept of warlocks. Summoning demons and channeling demonic magic and corrupted magic to kill your enemies is cool AF. They also have awesome utility abilties! Create a demonic circle to which you can recall back too! Store souls in stones to bring them back to life! conduct rituals to summon allies and demons! So cool. I dont really enjoy their gameplay that much right now though and I dont know why. I enjoy affliction because its the most difficult spec for me to play. Balancing all the debuffs in aoe situations is super awesome. Its super boring in single target though. Destruction is cool but its kind of annoying having chaos bolt be the vast majority of your damage.
Wow mage fantasy is meh. The gameplay is top tier though. flinging pyroblast is so much fun. Shooting a barrage of arcane missiles is super cool and terrifying the first time you see it. Frost Mage aoe is just so much fun to play. The fantasy is just so damn boring in wow.
warlock. more survivability. my mage has great, massive, flashy abilities… but they get WAY too close to death for them to be fun to me.
my 'lock has slightly less flashy abilities, but they survive 99.9% of encounters (baring i don’t accidentally kill myself by falling off a cliff or something), and are just as fun… especially when i have a massive wall of imps i can chuck at enemies, THAT is really fun!
Mages. Warlocks have the cooler aesthetics and style by far, but I’ve never been able to really get into any of their playstyles. Not big into dots or pets and destro always felt awkward to me somehow.
Mage seems to play so much more smoothly. Fingers of Frost, Pyroblast chains, etc are pretty satisfying. And I adore their teleports too. But the downside is they are squishy and have no healing in combat. Warlocks do rule in survivability. So pros and cons to each.
Do what I do and play both
Personally, I like my mage more than warlock. Wish I could tell you why.
Played both. My lock is still with me, my mage is… still in pandaria.
Mage … just for the portal system
I am having fun with Destro.
Warlock was better for 90% of WoW. In SL, mage is better aside from endgame raiding.
Mages. DoT maintenance gets dull, I’ve never liked pet-centric specs, and destro isn’t the worst but I don’t like the whole “stay planted and tank it” design.
Ice>Fire
Elements>Demons
Did I mention mage is not demonic? Arcane also says hi. If you don’t dig fire you’re gonna go frost or arcane mage, and if you don’t like demons lock may not work for you at all.
Mage.
I love the class fantasy and themes of warlocks. The mage lore and fantasy in game is pretty dull in comparison.
When it comes to actual playing in the game, I just enjoy mage more. I’m not sure why, warlock has cool pets, survivability, good damage, etc but I enjoy playing mages more.
Rotation both are meh.
Visually Mage is a bit better.
Lore/Class fantasy I like both.
I’ve played both and I prefer mage
Warlocks feel like a mage stuck in tar
Everything warlocks do is just slower and less mobile
Plus mages are Blizzard’s favorite
I play both classes. Have a lvl 60 Lock and this mage. I enjoy both for different reasons. Mage? Mobility, I can go anywhere fast, I hit hard I hit fast and as long as I pay attention and throttle my aggro, taking care not to yank off the tank or focus targets other than the tanks focus? I’m golden. Does playing smart cost me a little DPS? Yes, but I’ve never once had a tank whisper me to be more careful, never caused a wipe nor have I stressed out a healer and ended up dead because I’m a ranged DPS and should know better.
Warlock? Utility. I do great large pull damage, really good CC, I can SS a tank or healer on the fly when the chips look to be going down and my demons bring more utility. It’s another class where paying attention, throttling your threat and using all your abilities not just what milks the meters separates the players. For me? I have a lot more fun if I’m using most of my spells over the course of a dungeoun or raid. I know how to turn up the damage when it’s needed and when to screw the meters and play CC and help my group manage things. Warlock gives you lots of options.
I only played warlock back in BFA, and with Syphon life alone, I could kill 3-player elites quite easily.
Pet is always a nice addition.
in M+ scene, Fire>Affi>frost.
Yes. Fire is better than Affi and Affi is better than frost.
Solo play wise, I did enjoy being a warlock.
