Wanna know why wow is dead?

Continuing the discussion from No More Heritage Armour when Shadowlands hit?:

This doesn’t seem surprising at all to me. Even before Classic, BFA was still struggling to maintain around 3-4mil active subs. I could make a fair case and say that atleast a good portion of the BFA population were very eager to cease playing BFA once Classic arrived. So it would honestly make perfect sense as to why there are such few active subs in BFA currently.

From what I read, I believe they said that depending on who made more profit (Classic vs BFA), they will strongly consider the designated developer team in charge of Shadowlands. So I guess from that we could probably say that Shadowlands will be in good hands considering the Classic team probably won the revenue battle by a mile. Shadowlands is really the only hope for WoW. If they somehow manage to mess it up and turn in into an expansion worse than BFA, I don’t think the game will ever seek the redemption that players hope to see in the future.

Not surprised by a lot of this, but also kind of wondering whether this will be where things pivot and shadowlands its great. who knows…

Classic was an easy battle to win. The nostalgia factor did most of the work and simply replicated what they did 15years ago.

But so far Shadowlands looks drought in content, they said they were super early in development, they didnt know what they wanted to do with most of the things.

They made mage tower an expansion feature by actually never being able to win which I see as a big fail in advance. We farmed mage tower to obtain the appearance and being done with it. Now it will only be redundent since it will be a grind for we’re not sure for what yet.

No new class which surprised everyone. Specially when they literally made a covenant being necrolord, why not just make necromancer instead of pushing dk to all race being an important expansion feature because I don’t give a single crap about being able to play dk on any race if I don’t play that class to begin with.

Another huge point was no major class change.

Shadowlands looks lost already.

this is what people said about bfa too, bfa ended up being a disappointment and yet many people still stay subbed, like crack addicts

with no significant class changes or a healthy gearing structure in sight I’ll probably sit the next expac out esp with the new elder scrolls on the horizon

Honestly some of the info at the top preceding the actual content related leaks sounds hella messed up. Not going to make a hasty judgment or proceed to call out the company for this, but if that is really true, I would be very disappointed in the company’s ethical values.

Bfa still had some good pve features. I liked mythic+ and raiding. PvP was ok. Hate that they are oblivious to mage, DH and warlocks. Game has always been a grind so that hasn’t changed. They just made playing your toon super unfun unless you were one of the above 3 classes that surprisingly kept all their op abilities.

Working in the vfx industry, and having friends in the game industry I can tell you this literally happen. There was a client for a movie that wanted us to do major overtime for his project because he thought we were stupid sheeps like other company in the industry that have no other choice to do at what please the client because they doesn’t have enough money for their fiscal yearly. So they had to do crazy overtime.

And blizzard isnt the best company it once was since activision took over, they are their little b right now.

My boss dropped the project to protect us, becayse it wasnt within the values of the company to do overtime. Also, we had 4 other projects this year so we made enough money to drop them.

This is what scares me the most. Yay, pallys are getting auras back, but that alone wont really mean much if our mastery is still a train-wreck and healing rotation clunky af due to being hella reliant on holy shock crits.

I think the class changes will truly determine the fate of Shadowlands imo. Because we can certainly agree that they will almost never attempt to revamp classes mid expansion, so I’m honestly just waiting to see if they will make the proper modifications to class design(s) to actually make classes more fun again instead of just slapping some random and trivial changes which makes gameplay super stale.

please explain why im not having fun
also tank trinkets make the game very unfun but you never seem to mention those

Ion said no major class changes at blizzcon.

You’re not pvping enough! And you need to try out eternal palace xrealm mythic for gear.

I mean BfA would prolly be passable if they tuned it well all around. Still needs major work in class desgin/gearing systems, but if the game were balenced it would i believe be more tolerable. But as of right now there is meta stagnation, and some specs just arnt very viable, like afflic/enhance/etc, along with toxic mechanics, like gpyro, destro passive tankyness/healing, and greater heal.

I read earlier that affliction guardian is pretty powerful.

yea but affliction overall is not good, and dosent really work in its traditional comps.

Yeah, I wasn’t expecting huge class overhauls tbh. Any changes that would eliminate gimmicky, yet boring aspects of the gameplay would be welcoming. If tunings are done according to the direction of the meta and prevents a handful of classes becoming outright gods while promoting balance within class power, I’m sure those are enough to warrant a healthy PvP experience for most players. Going to keep my fingers crossed for PvP vendors, but worst case scenario if they never fall into the plan, then I would love to see a direction that promises a balanced and fun atmosphere in the PvP side of the game.

If we dont see much improvement, I really hope they skip BC and go straight to wrath servers.

I think 1 million is a totally healthy population for a game, but the development process/expectations need to be different. They need to focus less on trying to recapture 2-3 million people for a month of sub time with each patch/expansion and more on making their 1 million dedicated subs happy. You just end up in a perpetual loop of “next patch/expansion will fix it” when the game is in a constant state of new systems being added to bandaid fix poor ground level design choices.

Its like phone companies/isps who only offer promotions to new sign-ups without improving service for existing customers, then wonder why customers “promotion scam” and hop from isp to isp every 6 months.
