I also remember hearing of a direct New York to Sydney route, supposably 19+ hours non-stop. But I’m fairly sure QANTAS was the only one crazy enough to try it…(mind you my information is way out of date)

From 1962 to 1978, with a break while my Dad was stationed in St Mary, we lived within a few miles of the Great Northern (and then Burlington Northern) mainline as it wound around the southern border of Glacier National Park. Railroads and train watching have always been fun things to do.
