The perspective is that those orcs did try to wipe out the alliance. It is understandable to want to protect themselves. The methods by which that alliance of Lordaeron did, though, made it strike pretty close to home for our RL players. Internment camps, racial subjugation, etc. That evokes the worst of RL humanity where the initial intentions may have been deemed “right.”
Killing them outright may have been a mercy, but removing any semblance of freedom they had can be viewed as worse.
