Vulpera Discussion Megathread (Part 1)

I honestly still highly doubt Mechagnomes, I’m sorry. People are taking it as a sure thing when alls we saw were some models. We’re working with Giants on the Horde too, that we saw models for–does that mean that we’re going to get playable skrogs?

I’ll believe the whole mechagnome ‘hype’ when I see datamined models that have a suspicious amount of player animations. I mean, we don’t even know the story yet, but somehow they’re almost ‘certain’. I really don’t buy it.

Weren’t gnomes once mechagnomes? Maybe gnomes, through uncovering the secrets of mechagon and meeting it’s curious inhabitants, will learn a way to undo the curse of flesh. Maybe instead of a full-on race, gnomes will get localized de-cursed areas of their body that revert back to mechanical, such as; clockwork chests, metal arms/hands, cyborg eyes. I dunno. Cool stuff to think about.

I like the name mechagnomes or clockwork gnomes for gnomes, and I actually like junker goblins better and think it’s a fitting name for goblins. Goblins have more of a haphazard way - a zany yet passionate method to their madness by creating stuff by shoving things together from a skeptical collection of wonky parts (junk) and hope for the best / see what the outcome is (or isn’t)! I can see goblins wearing parts such as a backpacks of rockets / fireworks, goggles or visors, gloves that do different things such as have launchers, overstuffed tool belts with a section for bombs, boots with jumpy springs, basically modified multi-use gear, whereas gnomes might attach parts to themselves such as technology, cybernetics, clockwork stuff, since it’s in their ancestry. There are probably schematics and blueprints for backwards compatibility and the mechagnomes / clockwork gnomes from mechagon have undergone reversions to become their earliest-known selves. Or perhaps gnomes who departed the above-world so long ago, unlocked the secrets of their past and through surgical procedures have lived as their ancestors once did, Or maybe mechagon is simply home to some of the oldest clockwork and mechagnomes still functioning as new, completely unaffected by the curse, and will teach their ways to the gnomes who discover them. I like that idea. Kind of like walking computers. I’m excited to explore this story, and hope we get goblin heritage armor with bombs, backpacks and rockets :bomb::tropical_drink::firecracker::boom::sparkles::rocket::clock8::gear::hammer_and_wrench:

Need to mention vulpera since we’re in the vulpera thread! I think one day, goblins will burrow / dig so far from the undermine and will happen to stumble into an original massive underground city / home of the vulpera, deep underground. Maybe their old civilization is petrified by age or they are locked away in time/stone by some deep magic. Maybe echoes can be heard of a once thriving civilization, possibly Azeroth has the ability to record everything that has taken place and we will get to see what happened to the vulpera to make them leave or flee their original home. Maybe they are locked in time due to some spell. The goblins discovering the original underground city of the vulpera by blowing up a rocky wall at the end of a long tunnel while being chased by a ferocious burrowing worm or enemy drogbars could be cool. Just ideas. Maybe mechagon will set some of that up as we’ll be underground in a vast array of part-strewn paths, tinkering tunnels and mechanical mazes.

In a just world, it could be just like you said!

I am not against junkgnomes, but if the horde receives something as full of hype as vulperas, it will be somewhat disheartening for the Alliance to receive, again, something that has never shown real interest, rather than sethraks, which since the BfA announcement, drew attention and junkgnomes, did not even arouse applause at Blizzcon.

Yes, it would be nice if it were!
But will we see Aunt Blizz seize the moment and create a new class to promote junkgnomes?
Well, the future will respond!

Me too!

What makes all statements about jjunkgnomes somewhat ironic is that with respect to vulperas and sethraks, there are comparatively much more articles, interest, and indications that they may be playable, yet groups deny them with hostility and fanaticism !

And junkgnome, is considered the new allied race, with nothing more than an image without any movement or history associated with them!

Maybe it will be an allied race, but if it’s thrown into the Alliance with nothing to cherish it, it will be a big fail!

Junkgnome, nor generate the same interest as vulperas or sethraks!
I will believe they have a public when I see a mega thrend like the ones that were made, for vulpera and sethraks!

Or at least, like what is being done about ogres!

I am getting close to my first bonus rep box for voldunai. Here’s hoping I get the jukebox!

I got it. I think it was in my second box.

I’ve switched mains a few times so I haven’t gotten any boxes with Voldunai yet XD

I got 2 boxes thus far and no jukebox. Sad times!

Aw. I hope you get it soon.

I refuse to look up what it sounds like until I get it myself.

I got a [Goldtusk Inn Breakfast Buffet] in the first box, and It doesn’t make any cute sounds… all it’s good for is tricking your BG team into not getting the well fed buff, and putting you at a slight disadvantage at the start of a match.

The next 3 boxes were empty ;^;

You’re up to 4 bonus boxes? That’s some impressive dedication.

These new paragon boxes thankfully have better drop rates than the Legion ones.

I’ve got quite a few rare drops so far: a pet from Stormwake, the faction flag from 7th Legion (I love this one; it makes all players around to shout “For the Alliance/Horde” together), Meerah’s jukebox from Voldunai. I want the jukebox from Proudmoore Admiralty now.

Same here. I was excited about Zandalari before the xpac was released because I was planning on immediately leveling one. At this point, I could care less. I actually canceled my sub about a week ago and haven’t played since even though I still have game time. I might consider coming back if they release Vulpera / Sethrak.

You can hear it when other people use it, at least in party so be careful!

For a second I thought you were warning me that I might accidentally annoy other people when I get one for myself and I was amused by your faith in my good intentions

I’m up to four now with no goodies from the box. =/

Recently our caravan leaders got to conduct a brief q&a with our secretive messenger from the dunes. Below is a text transcript of questions they were able to (and not able to) answer!

Q: What inspiration did you guys use when making the Vulpera? What theme, style, culture, names?

A: There were a lot different influences on the vulpera, so a lot of it I simply don’t know (especially on the art side of things, where I don’t have a lot of visibility). I can say that early on, I used Japanese names as a reference point when naming my vulpera. We ultimately changed some of the ones that were too on-the-nose, but I think the general style of those names has some influence on the names in-game. We also kept the names fairly short, with a lot of 2-syllable names. To me, at least, that felt like it fit their pragmatic personality. Large, ornate names wouldn’t feel right on them I don’t think.

Q: Sethrak, do they really eat Vulpera?

A: I’m certain the young vulpera have scary stories of this that they tell each other around their caravan’s campfire on starry nights

Q: Pronunciation of Vulpera name, is it Vul-pear-a or Vul-peerah? We hear different pronunciation for them during the game with Nisha saying VulPEARah and Vorrik saying VulPEERah.

A: As far as I know, it’s pronounced vul-pear-ah. When in doubt, I’d trust Nisha over Vorrik on that, for sure

Q: Do the vast majority of Vulpera see an ally within the Devoted? Or would most Vulpera see them all the same as the Faithless?

A: I think you can see some split opinions of this in-game (and if not, I should’ve made sure you did). At the very least, you can certainly see that different packs/caravans of vulpera have very different viewpoints and values and opinions (Zem’lan caravan vs. Zak’rajan caravan vs. Kiro vs. Nisha) – so I think it’d make a lot of sense that they would all interpret the Devoted’s claims of friendship differently – and all of them with a healthy dose of skepticism if they hadn’t witnessed aid firsthand (like Nisha/Kiro did). Heck, they’d probably be skeptical of pretty much anyone offering aid – just like they are with the Horde/player in the quests

Q: We’ve seen other inhabitants of vol’dun struggle with food and its taste, but it seems Kiro is particularly fond of much of the desert cuisine, do Vulpera have anything special about their cooking to make the food more palatable?

A: I’m certain they’ve come up with plenty of cooking techniques to make the unusual food options in vol’dun taste their best (much tastier than outsiders cook it). I’m even more certain that vulpera are, in general, much less picky about the taste of their food than, say, the blood elves (among many other things they’re much less picky about – can you imagine a vulpera spending that much attention/money/time on fashion? haha)

The following questions were declined to be commented on

Q. Vulpera went through a huge change from Blizzcon/Alpha models to the current models. The models have been tweaked and polished, they also got bushy tails. What caused the developers to re-do the entire Vulpera model?

Q. A follow-up to the Question 1: Vulpera (in dressing room) are able to wear cloaks, how much time and dedication did it take to animate the tail and cloak so that it does not clip? The cloak nicely follows the movement of the tail?

Q. How long have Vulpera been slaves to the Sethrak?

Q. How many caravans are there? Was the burrow that got raided at the start just for one of them, or all of caravans?

Q. Do the Vulpera have a distinct design culture of their own, or have the Sethrak removed and replaced it with their own? Regarding garments, weaponry, and building/caravan design. We have noticed that there is a triangular symbol that appears in both the Vulperan tabard and on various Sethraki items, such as rugs and weaponry. Does it hold any significance, or is it a coincidence?

Q. How do the Vulpera see the current development of the War on Azeroth?

Q. Do vulpera have their own language or do they speak sethrali (or whatever the sethrak langauge is called)

I reserved the name Martin on my server. He’s going to be a Warrior. A fox is probably the closest thing we’ll get to a mouse.
