I mean, they are the most popular Allied race despite having the hardest to satisfy unlock requirements. To claim they “don’t work” is kind of unfounded.
You couldn’t tell that based on the forum discourse, but that’s never been a particularly good way to gauge the game, as it’s almost universally negative about everything and always has been.
To be fair, Alleria, the “leader” of void elves, was part of the army of the light, and besides xe’ra that is gone for good, most of them weren’t mad at her for her turning a void being. There is also her relationship with Turalyon.
So while opposite forces, they share common ground enough to not be mad at each other.
On topic, Umbric and the void elves are very important on the alliance war campaign, mostly using their void abilities to ruin horde activities.
I think Alleria and Turalyon’s relationship would have been funny to explore during this time, especially with their being on polar ends of the magical spectrum.
But, just because their leaders like each other doesn’t mean that the individuals of each force have to like each other. I was implying that they’d work alongside each other, but have a good back-and-forth between them.
Also, I don’t know if I’d call them important to the War Campaign. I don’t remember the Alliance War Campaign that much, so I could be wrong, but here’s where I remember Void Elves.
Umbric shows up in Vol’dun. He doesn’t do anything, but he’s there with a portal.
The Void elves are the last quest in the Alliance invasion of Zandalar. Admittedly, one of the best invasion quests, but still only one quest.
We have “void elf infiltrators” that you can summon when attacking goblins in Zandalar. But, by the way, these “specialized, highly-trained masters of dark magic” get melee’d to death by goblin miners if you don’t babysit them.
There was also the quest when infiltrating the Zandalari Capital where you yank Horde Ambassadors into the void portals. I believe this was when you are either planting the bombs on the fleet or somewhere in that quest chain.
Also Umbric is part of the trashing of Gallywix’s pleasure palace.
There are at least two quests that involve death by Void Portal, the one you mentioned and another involving goblins on the beach. That one also involves mass slaughter by rolling fire elemental which is when the Dark Irons get to shine…
I missed Cata so - was Uldum just an extended Raiderd of the Lost Arc reference?
I only did a couple of quests there on alts- enough to run into Harrison Jones so I knew there was a bit of it. I guess it was foolish of me to think the archaeology trainer in Orgrimmar’s throne was just an unrelated gag.
Yeah, it’s the main part of the zone and ties into the main Cata narrative. It felt really out of place when compared to the other Cata leveling zones, but as long as you like Harrison Jones it’s not a terrible questline.
Bless the lack of enthusiasm for Belves that apparently is a thing on the dev team, cause frankly the more attention any race has the worst is written.
As much as I’m disappointed that the Void Elves don’t have so much as a token presence in any of the void related stuff throughout BFA, even if it was just studying it, I will say I am digging how they and the Dark Iron Dwarves have a kind of budding friendship going on. There’s only one line of dialogue and then something you can infer from the suicide armies for the Zandalari Raid, but its neat all the same.
